The offices will be closedfrom 12noon to 3:30pm for a very special program.Offices will be open in the morning from 9:00am to12noon, and re-open from 3:30pm to 5:00pm.We are actually going to celebrate our great parishteam with our annual Christmas luncheon and party.Yes, we are celebrating Christmas, December, 2021.Because of Covid we had to cancel our plans for lastDecember. Our team has worked hard and addressedmany great challenges with devotion, prayer, dedication and love; and we all need to celebrate ourfriendship. We selected March 24th, the day before the Feastof the Annunciation, a most appropriate date; as theChurch celebrates the message of the angel to ourMother Mary that she would conceive the ChristChild.Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We can imagine the splendor of the Transfiguration inour Gospel, and in a manner similar to the Baptism of theLord, we hear the voice of God booming down announcing Jesus the Son. It is another of the great epiphanies. But if you think about it, each reading this weekend has asort of “Aha” moment to it. A moment of mutual commitment, of trust. In Genesis, God makes a covenant withAbram, promising him descendants numerous as the starsin the sky. The Psalmist professes his faith and hope: “Ibelieve that I shall see the bounty of the Lඈඋൽ in the landof the living.” Paul’s letter to the Philippians lays it outsimply in “drop the mic” fashion: “Our citizenship is inheaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord JesusChrist.” That’s it. Boom.THE RECAPWhen you watch a TV series, they will often provide aquick synopsis of key events from the last couple ofshows to set the stage for the current episode. If we do aquick review of the Gospel of Luke, earlier in chapternine Jesus was sending the disciples out in ministry forthe first time, and we had the feeding of the five thousand.Peter realizes that Jesus is the Messiah, Jesus gives us thefirst hint of his own death and tells the disciples to take uptheir cross and follow him. After all that physical, spiritual, and emotional stress Jesus goes out to pray on themountain, taking Peter, John, and James with him.THIS WEEK’S EPISODEOnce they were settled on the mountaintop, Jesus began to pray in earnest and, as usual, his wingmen fellasleep. The disciples did not yet have the strength or insights of the Master. Peter, James, and John did not yethave the stamina or the depth to be able to focus duringlong periods of silent, contemplative prayer, especiallyafter their long hike. One might see visions simply due toexhaustion! As Jesus was transfigured before them, Petermight have bumbled around it in typical Peter fashion, buthe realized the significance of what they saw, and hewanted somehow to capture the sacred, to capture the moment, so he asked to build some tents. If we imagined thistoday, we’d all be there with our phones and selfie stickstrying to get an amazing picture of it, to capture the moment, and to share with everyone on social media. But allthe disciples could do was remember it, capture it in theirhearts—and tell no one at the time. They were silenced bythe sacred. We too must let our busy worlds and mindsand hearts enter into the silence. Start out with a fewminutes daily and continue to add a minute or two moreeach day. Listen for the sacred in the silence, and let thevoice of God fill your heart.

These families have been dependentupon sales of their hand carved religious articles totourists to the Holy Land. Due to the conflict in theMiddle East tourism has been greatly reduced. In order to survive, they have turned to Catholiccommunities in the United States to purchase theirartwork: carved from wood of sacred olive trees; thiswork has been traditional for Christian families inthe Holy Land for more than 400 years. All fundsmade here today will go directly to these families. We pray to accomplish more for our Catholiccommunity in the Holy Land. Amazingly enough, the Catholic community dropped from 22% to lessthan 2% in the last 20 years. We hope with this mission we can make a difference. We thank you in advance for all your support. God bless !PROTECTING OUR CHILDRENDid you know? The importance of boundaries in ministryGood ministry occurs when a person establishes andrespects healthy boundaries with the people he or sheis trying to serve. Those who work in ministry haveto be aware of healthy boundaries and what is and isnot appropriate for these scenarios, because the riskof violation can cause serious harm. Goodboundaries yield healthy relationships. READINGS FOR THIS WEEKA GLIMPSE OF GODHave you ever had a glimpse of God? Perhaps youperceived God’s presence in a quiet moment of prayer,a tender conversation with a loved one, or a difficultsituation that was resolved unexpectedly. Peter, James, and John in today’s Gospel were given a glimpse ofChrist’s glory on the mountain, as Jesus was transfigured before them. Abram put his faith in God and sawGod’s power in a wondrous sign of covenant love. Wehave the promise of eternal life with God in heaven. This promise brings with it responsibility, as peoplewho are called to live as Christ’s very own in theworld. Lent is the perfect time to resolve to listen moreattentively to the Lord and follow God’s ways, assuredthat in doing so, we put our faith in the one, true, andfaithful God.Copyright J. S.
