Data & InfoPastor’s CornerThose Who Celebrate Their August AnniversariesThere’s Just Something AboutMary.Pr. Chad Kyler“And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let itbe to me according to your word.” And the angel departedfrom her.” Luke 1:38Lutherans honor Mary, or at least we should! August 15this the Feast of Mary, Mother of the Lord, so I’m taking thisopportunity to review Mary’s significance and the historicLutheran understanding of her role in salvation history.Mary as Luke tells us was chosen among all women to bethe mother of God incarnate in the person of Jesus Christ, amission she freely and joyfully accepted. Because of this hercousin Elizabeth when seeing Mary “.exclaimed with a loudcry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruitof your womb!” (Luke 1:42). Therefore Lutherans hold Maryin high esteem, universally teaching the dogmas of the Theotokos (God-bearer) and the Virgin Birth. From the Lutheran Confessions we read “On account ofthis personal union and communion of the natures, Mary, themost blessed virgin, did not conceive a mere, ordinary humanbeing, but a human being who is truly the Son of the mosthigh God, as the angel testifies. He demonstrated his divinemajesty even in his mother’s womb in that he was born of avirgin without violating her virginity. Therefore she is trulythe mother of God and yet remained a virgin (Formula ofPage 2The Monthly Star1, 1964 Paul & Marilyn Mausteller56 years2, 2003 John & Kim Christensen17 years4, 2006 Frank & Kim Puma14 years5, 2000 James & Maureen Schinzel20 years6, 1995 Robert & Meribeth Bajak25 years8, 1998 John & Cammie Schelble22 years9, 2008 Michael & Heather Eusanio 12 years11, 1979 Steve & Debra Dechert41 years14, 2010 Al & Fran Kaefer10 years15, 1981 Robert & Jill Mariea39 years17, 2001 Jay & Lisa Kingston19 years17, 2007 Vince & Erin Hammell13 years19, 1972 Robert & Joyce Transki48 years20, 1966 Rev. Hence we do not pray to Mary (orany saint), adore or worship her in any way. Instead we honor Mary best by emphasizing that she was a receiver ofGod's love and favor.According to scripture Mary was present during certainmoments of Jesus’ ministry. She encouraged Him to perform His first miracle at a wedding in Cana (John 2:3-5),she was present when he preached (Matthew 12:46-50), andshe was present at the crucifixion (John 19:25). At the crossJesus gave the task of caring for His mother following Hisdeath to John the beloved disciple (John 19:25-27).Mary was also active in the early Church “All thesewith one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and hisbrothers.” (Acts 1:14) and the Apostles recognized her importance in God’s plan and purpose “But when the fullnessof time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law.” (Galatians 4:4)Considering all of this it is good for Christians to remember, honor, and celebrate Mary the mother of our Lordfor she is a shining example of one who received God’sgrace, mercy, and love accepting the mission He had chosenher to fulfill. May we all follow her example and declare“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”August 2020Page 3

St. Paul’s Ministry NewsLCMC UpdateStephen MinistryPresently (as of 7/18/2020):I don’t believe that time heals everything. It helps, itdoes. After a while you won’t cry about it all the time.It won’t consume your every thought anymore. Youdo get better. You’ll laugh. And smile. You’ll evenhave a lot of great days. But it is still there. You justlearn to live with it.This is how things are now. SO get used to it. But, that doesn’t mean itever goes away. It’s still deep in your soul. Still makes you cry whenyou think about it too much. Still stops you in your tracks when something reminds you of it. You’ll have those moments where your hearthurts really bad. I don’t think time heals everything. Sure it gets better. But it’s a scar that never goes away. A broken bone that still aches onrainy days. In light of the current restrictions placed on group gatherings in the state of Minnesota due to COVID-19, we have made some changes to this year's program: PROGRAM: The duration of the event has been reduced to one day only on Monday, October 5. Breakout sessions, fellowship and networking activities, and vendorshave been canceled for this year. CAPACITY: Registration is first come first served, limited to 250 people, and opento voting delegates ONLY. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believesthat Jesus is the Son of God? We do not live as those with no hope. Our hope isfound in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
