Healthy People Now How to Deal with Shame and guilt“When I was a little girl, I wanted my mother’s approval. But no matter what I did, shealways wanted more. She demanded perfection. I tried harder but it was never enough.I devoted my life to pleasing her which in the end I felt I failed as a human being.” Sogoes the story of a middle-aged woman and the story of many. This leads to shame and the feeling of never quite feeling good enough. Shame isassociated with being an inadequate human being.Guilt on the other hand is a bit different from shame. While shame begins when we arechildren, guilt begins when we feel like we are not following the rules or we have failedto live by our standards or values.Shame is saying “I’m worthless”. Guilt is saying “I am wrong”. Shame is saying “who Iam is wrong.” Guilt is saying “I know my deeds are wrong”.At the conclusion of every worship service you hear words like this. “The Lord blessyou and keep you, the Lord make his face shine upon you and give you peace” It is aproclamation by our Lord to you that your shame and your guilt cannot keep you fromthe love of God in Jesus Christ. It takes away our identifying who we are in our shameand guilt and trades it for our identity in Jesus. The bondage of shame is common and the hammering of guilt painful. But our trueidentity is in the love of One who does not despise us.In His Service,PastorFred Simon(1) Evelyn Antoniak(1) Beverly Cohoon(1) David Hladky(1) Harvey Marx(4) Betty Lowe(4) Philip Smith(5) Trisha Chandler(5) Su Knope(5) Aaron Lightfoot(7) Lucy Ristow(8) Brandee Loftus(8) Brianna Hessler(9) Lauren Carnes(9) Kathy Nietfeld(10) Christina Ferony(10) Cindy Ruffner(11) Elfriede Kuss(11) Trevor Lovell(13) Carol Lange(15) Aidyn TrubeEleanore Barrett (16)Laura Conner (16)Trevor Ristow (17)Josh Ristow (19)Matthew McIntosh (21)Mike Jackman (22)Dwayne Spomer (22)Jenna Davis (23)Monica Evon (24)Alison Hicks (25)Gavin Meyer (25)Susan Aden (26)Joel Lange (28)Peyton Nietfeld (28)Skylar Graumann (29)Zachary Hladky (29)Jan Ortner (29)Michael Berg (30)Joshua Hicks (30)Evonne Wilkinson (30)Wedding AnniversariesMartin & Anja Hanson (2)Wendell & Ethelyn Hoins (3)Jay & Laura Nuzum (3)Scott & Katie Ristow (4)Jim & Phyl Engelkes (5)Tim & Rhonda Roth (5)Steven & Cheryl Wisniewski (5)Herb & Judy Barelman (6)Bruce & Cindy Clark (6)Trent & Lori Dalton (6)Ed & Sharon Kazmierski (7)Joe & Mindy Skoff (7)Aaron & Cori Lightfoot 12)Don & Gloria Wilde (13)John & Wilma Keim (23)Troy & Jenny Staroscik (26)Larry & Michele McClure (29)Craig & Kathryn Petters (29)
