Background to the development NEBOSH International Technical Certificate inOil and Gas Operational Safety Designed specifically for those with safetyresponsibilities in the oil and gas industry Key topics covered:- SHE in context- Hydrocarbon process safety- Fire protection & emergency response- Logistics Notional level 7 in the Scottish Credit andLevel Framework (SQCF)

Consultation undertaken duringdevelopment phase Surveying of past and present learners (successful andunsuccessful) Extensive face:face consultation with significant employerswithin the hydrocarbon sector both in the UK andInternationally Desire for a qualification to be structured around ProcessSafety Management became obvious Syllabus developed by NEBOSH and HSE and approved forpilot by employer representatives including HSE, PPG, ABPPorts, KGOC, KOC, and Astra Zeneca.

Overview of content Element 2: Management of process risk– Importance of establishing a PSM system and its key elements– Common risk management techniques used in the processindustries– Asset management techniques– Role purpose and features of a permit-to-work system– Key principles of a safe shift handover– Principles of selecting, assessing and managing contractors.

Overview of content Element 3: Process safety hazard control––––Purpose and requirements of SOP’sSafe start-up and shut-down of process plantPerformance standards for safety critical systemsHazards and controls associated with: Steam and water Electricity / static electricity Bulk storage– Dangerous substances and how they can determine processrisk.

Overview of content Element 4: Fire and explosion protection––––Fire and explosion hazards relating to process industriesControl measures to minimise the effects of fire and explosionDustsEmergency planning and implementation.

Target audience People from all around the world who work in processindustries such as oil and gas, chemicals, plastics andpharmaceuticals Ideal for managers, safety representatives and health andsafety advisors working within the process industries It is not designed for chemical and process safety engineersexperienced in the specification, design and maintenance ofprocess plant Students should already have an underpinning knowledge ofhealth and safety issues.

Assessment Students are assessed by a 90 minute, 40 question multiplechoice examination Takes place on a date selected by a learners course provider Standard of English equivalent to an International EnglishLanguage Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher inIELTS tests.
