Metro RegionLiving Healthy at Any AgeMULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (MS)DIABETESAdaptive Yoga for MSPre-Diabetes ClassStudies show that people with MS who do yoga reduce the amount offatigue they feel and improve strength and concentration. Yoga’s focuson breathing and postures improves balance, coordination and flexibilitywhile reducing stress. This six-week class introduces a basic understandingof poses. By the end of the course, you should feel comfortable practicingyoga independently at home. If you have any concerns about your abilityto perform yoga safely, please consult a physician prior to signing up forclass. An MS-certified specialist also is present to help modify poses andprovide ideas for individualized adaptations if needed.Cost is 10 per class, payable at the start of each session or 50 for all sixclasses (a 10 dollar savings) when paid in full at first session. Classes arelimited to eight attendees. This seven-session program isdesigned to help people with multiple sclerosis improve the seven mainareas of cognition and reduce stress related to cognitive issues. You will learn to recognize gynecologicalissues such as premenstrual syndrome, abnormal bleeding, cysts,infertility and/or premenopausal issues (hot flashes, vaginal dryness, etc).Understanding your fertility allows you to manage your gynecologicalhealth no matter where you are in your reproductive life. This program provides medically supervised exercise in arehabilitation setting.You’ll receive an initial evaluation including review of medical history,baseline endurance assessment, screening of risk factors and medicationreview. Therapists will develop an individualized exercise prescription,provide goal-setting guidance and periodic monitoring of blood pressure,blood sugar, weight, heart rhythm and oxygen saturation. As you progressthrough the program, exercise specialists help you safely increase yourworkload. You’ll learn how to maintain an active lifestyle, maximize timeand effort and gain the confidence to exercise on your own.Fairview’s WEL program is not covered by insurance.
