St. Patrick Parish Appreciates!Throughout history, there have been many times when theCatholic Church was dramatically impacted. Little did weknow that on our Feast Day, St. Patrick’s Day, our liveswould change and affect us like never before. COVID-19has certainly taken its toll on all of us, changing the way wework, shop, gather, and even attend Mass. In an abundanceof caution for our safety, we missed out on a lot of amazingMasses and Services that always bring us much Grace. Welost out on being together for half of Lent, Palm Sunday,Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil and Easter,Mother’s Day, our May Procession, and Jesus’ Ascension. Our Easter Candy Sale was cut short, only being able toprovide peanut butter Easter eggs at that time. No EasterEgg Hunt, No May Procession, No Mass to Honor ourGraduates this year. The Sacraments of Baptism,Reconciliation, Confirmation, and First Holy Communionwere postponed. Funerals were different, and people hadto say goodbye to their beloved family members in small, intimate groups. But, being the awesome Parish that St. Patrick is, we roseabove the anxieties and difficulties, and continued to focuson Jesus. Monsignor and Fr. Barnabas learned to be “moviestars”, and focus on helping people to pray with themthrough the magic of social media, aka, Facebook. However, every single minute they looked forward to people returningto Mass to receive the Source and Summit of our Faith, theHoly Eucharist, because we know how wondrous it is andhow sad it was to be separated from it. Through familiesgetting together (virtually) to pray the Divine MercyChaplet with us, honoring Monsignor on his 39th priesthoodanniversary, and singing Happy Birthday to FatherBarnabas, we learned how great it was to be a part of theFacebook generation. Zoom rosaries became a favoritething to pray in May, and let’s not forget that we honoredour Graduates in front of the whole Facebook world. We got to be a part of history as Pope Francis gave theCity of Rome and the World an extraordinary blessingcalled “urbi et orbi”. St. Patrick Parish hosted a veryspecial virtual prayer service for Essential Personnel andFirst Responders, with the response being tremendous –135 candles being lit for them! Monsignor blessed the Cityof Pottsville and County with the Blessed Sacrament givingus hope and assurance of better days to come. Monsignordid special things for us such as Facebook video questionand answer sessions, a virtual Stations of the Cross andMay Crowing, and virtual tours of our beautiful Church sothat we could stay connected. Sundays were days thatwere fun and never boring with lots of virtual crafts, snacks, special guests, and games with prizes, such as Saintbingo, that was mentioned by Bishop Schlert in his homilyat the annual (virtual) Diocesan Chrism Mass. Monsignorand Fr. Barnabas still talk about the Priest Parade that ourparishioners gave them on May 24th , which included asurprise visit from Mister Softee. What a fun time!Using ingenuity, our Activities Committee did a drivethrough Spaghetti Dinner to help people’s stomachs smile, with a skit from Monsignor and Father Barnabas as a way topromote it! It’s all a blur, isn’t it?We especially would like to thank all of our parishioners andfriends who stepped up and made “Lemonade” out of thegreat big Coronavirus “Lemon”! Thank you to those whohave cleaned our Church after every weekday Mass, weekend Mass, and funerals. Thank you to those who keptour Facebook page very busy by livestreaming Masses, devotions, and fun. Thank you to our Deacons, MusicMinistry, Sacristans, and all who helped us to havebeautiful Liturgies and Services. Thank you to our favoriteSign Maker, who always uses a sense of encouragement.Thank you to those who sent cards and goodies, and madephone calls to our priests and staff, giving them constantsupport. Thank you to those who helped with the EasterCandy Sale, and Spaghetti Dinner to Go, and who boughtcandy and platters. Thank you to those who continued tosupport our Parish financially with their envelopes, specialdonations, and by buying and selling lotto calendars (viamail). Because of your generosity, the Mission of theParish can continue! Thank you to anyone who didANYTHING to help us through these past few months.May we never take the Eucharist for granted! Let uscontinue to pray for an end to the Coronavirus, for thosewho are sick because of it, and for the repose of the soulsof those who passed away from it. Remember, throughouthistory, the Catholic Church did go on and it will go on! Wejust have to continue to put Jesus first, and everything willfall into place!Let us pray: Most Merciful and Triune God, We come toYou in our weakness. We come to You in our fear. We cometo You with trust. For You alone are our hope. We placebefore You the disease present in our world. We turn toYou in our time of need. Bring wisdom to doctors. Giveunderstanding to scientists. Endow caregivers withcompassion and generosity. Bring healing to those who areill. Protect those who are most at risk. Give comfort tothose who have lost a loved one. Welcome those who havedied into Your Eternal Home. Stabilize our communities.Unite us in our compassion. Remove all fear from ourhearts. Fill us with confidence in Your care. Jesus, I trustin You. Jesus, I trust in You. Jesus, I trust in You. Amen. Our Lady’s Chapel (Morning MassChapel) will be open EVERY dayfrom 8:30 am to 4:30 pm forPrivate Prayer.
