31 October 2021Thirty-First Sunday of the YearST. JOSEPHNew HomeCATHOLIC PARISHWell, I moved in to mynew home this past week. While it was an excitingtime there was also atinge of sadness. It wouldhave been nice if myparents would have beenalive to see this momentof transition in my life. Ithought especially of myfather who was always alittle surprised by the waymy brother and I turnedout. My father was notmuch of a church goer.About a year before I gotordained mom finally saidto him, “Rupe, you’dbetter start going tochurch so people won’tthink you’re a hypocritewhen you go to church atGeorge’s ordination.”Dad pretty much wentfrom that day on but I’msure wondered to himself how he ever had a son who was a priest. The same was true for his thinking about my brother. Dad only graduated from 8th grade. He had to stopgoing to school so he could work on his father’s farm. It was the Depression and dad’s dad had sons tomanage the work. When my brother was named CEO of Oshkosh Corporation I remember mom calling me togive me the news. She said, “We can’t tell anyone until tomorrow but that won’t be hard, your father can’tbelieve it.” I remember when my brother purchased a boat since he lived on a lake. Dad yelled at him, reminding him he had two children to put through college. He couldn’t be wasting his money on boats. Idon’t know how my brother responded to that but I’m sure he caught on to dad’s disbelief that he had a sonwho was CEO of a big company.I like my new home. My friend (Fr.) Mike Joncas came over last week and admitted to Kevin on the phonethat he was on the edge of envious. Of course Mike is retiring the same time I am and has moved out of hisbig house on Summit to a condo on Grand Avenue in St. Paul. His condo has more square footage than myhouse and is quite nice but I like my house better.Several parishioners have approached me about seeing the house. I’m not sure what their intrigue is allabout. It’s really a rather simple, minimalistic arrangement. It has an open floor concept with the kitchen, great room and dining area all in one. The best thing about it may be it’s in floor heating. The last fewmornings have been cold and my feet have not been. Put a smile on my face.GRS269 Dakota St. South Prescott, WI 54021

St. Joseph Parish SchoolEach year during November, we do a number of things in the school to focus on the lives and examples of the saints. This yearwe will begin by celebrating All Saints Day on November 1st. Some of our 5th and 6h Grade students will come to Massdressed as a favorite saint, and students will process into Mass singing “When The Saints Go Marching In”. Other students inthe school will be dressed as a saint that day as well; it is one of the most anticipated days of the school year! Beyond ourremembrance of saints from the past, we also highlight the fact that we too are part of the communion of saints. And wecontinue to remind students of our tradition to pray for the intercession of those saints who have gone before us, who pray toGod on our behalf. We look to the example of those holy men and women who modeled living In Christ, As Christ and ForChrist, so that we too can live more fully as saints. Please continue to pray for the achievement of our school’s mission this coming year, and for the success of all our students, staff and school families. We received this prayer from a parishioner last fall and continue to ask for the prayers of the parishcommunity, to help protect and guide us each day!Heavenly Father, thank You for your constant love and care. We ask that you watch over and protect our children, teachers, school staff and families from illness, harm or distress this school year. Help us to do our part to prevent thespread of the virus, to bring peace to our world, and to always be Christ for one another, in all that we do.
