Product Bulletin51.1:ETJune 2005ET ValveDesign ET, EAT, and ETRSliding-Stem Control ValvesDesign ET, EAT, and ETR general-purpose controlvalves (figures 1, 2, 3, and 4) are used for throttlingor on-off control of a wide variety of liquids andgases. All three valve designs have single ports, balanced valve plugs, and cage guiding.Metal-to-PTFE seating for stringent shutoffrequirements is standard in all valves except thosewith Cavitrolr III cages. Metal-to-metal seating forhigher temperatures is standard for valves withCavitrol III cages and optional for all other valves. The temperature limits of Design ET valves can beextended above 232 C (450 F) by using PEEK(PolyEtherEtherKetone) anti-extrusion rings incombination with a spring-loaded PTFE seal. ThePEEK anti-extrusion rings expand to close off theclearance gap between the plug and the cage wherethe PTFE seal may extrude at high temperaturesand pressures. The temperature limits are extendedto 316 C (600 F) for non-oxidizing service and to260 C (500 F) for oxidizing service.Unless otherwise noted, all NACE references are toNACE MR0175-2002.The easy-er Valve FamilyDesign ET, EAT, and ETR control valves are part ofthe versatile easy-er family of industrial controlvalves from Fisherr. easy-e valves share thefollowing characteristics:D Multiple trim material choicesD Interchangeable, restricted-capacity trims andfull-sized trims to match variable process flowdemandsW1916-3 / ILFigure 1. Thesepacking systems feature PTFE or Graphite ULFpacking with live-loading for reduced packingmaintenance.D PTFE Seating for Long-Lasting ShutoffCapability—Controlled compression of standardseat construction protects PTFE disk between metaldisk seat and disk retainer (figure 2). Only the edgeof the PTFE disk is contacted by the flowstreamduring normal operation. Excellent shutoff ismaintained by a backup ring or spring-loading thatforces the valve plug seal ring against the cage(figure 2).D Stable Control—Rugged cage guidingstabilizes the valve plug at all points in its travel toreduce vibration, mechanical noise, and the need forhydraulic snubbers.D Cost-Effective Operation and MaintenanceEconomy—Increased wear resistance of hardenedstainless steel trim means longer-lasting service. When inspection or maintenance is necessary, thebody can stay in the pipeline during removal of trimparts. Balanced valve plug construction permits useof smaller, lower-cost actuators from Fisher. TheDesign ETR valve also permits easy body interioraccess without having to remove the bonnet oractuator (figure 4). And, trim inventory costs are cutbecause dimensional standardization permits use ofmost standard easy-e trim parts.NoteNeither Emersont, Emerson ProcessManagement, Fisher, nor any of theiraffiliated entities assumesresponsibility for the selection, useand maintenance of any product.Responsibility for the selection, use,and maintenance of any productremains with the purchaser andend-user.2D Compliance with European Standards—Valves are available with dimensions specified byEN/DIN standards. See figure 16.D Sour Environment Capability—Materials areavailable for applications handling sourenvironments. These materials comply with therequirements of NACE MR0175-2002.

Refer to table 3.ENVIRO-SEALr, HIGH-SEALt PackingSystemsbellows seal system (figure 10). The patentedemission control packing system keeps emissionconcentrations below the EPA 500 ppm requirement. The ENVIRO-SEAL and HIGH-SEAL packingsystems from Fisher offer exceptional sealingcapabilities. These systems easily install in existingvalves or can be purchased with new valves. Thesesystems help seal the process to conserve valuableprocess fluid. The long-life and reliability of thesesystems also reduce maintenance cost anddowntime. For an excellent stem seal in applications that arenot environmentally-sensitive, Fisher offers theHIGH-SEAL Graphite ULF packing system (figure11). The HIGH-SEAL packing system providesimproved sealing at pressure/temperature ratingsbeyond ENVIRO-SEAL limits. For applications requiring compliance withenvironmental protection regulations, Fisher offersthe unique ENVIRO-SEAL packing system (figure11) and, for hazardous service, the ENVIRO-SEALENVIRO-SEAL packing systems, available withPTFE, Graphite ULF, or duplex packing, and theHIGH-SEAL Graphite ULF packing system featurelive-loading and unique packing-ring arrangementsfor long-term, consistent sealing performance.3
