Page 3Greetings Fiber FriendsWelcome to Carol Leigh's Specialties & Hillcreek Fiber Studio.2013 celebrates our 30th year in business. Carol Leigh's Specialties was founded in 1982primarily as a custom weaving, spinning and natural dyeing business. As a result ofincreasing inquiries of "How and where can I learn to do that?," Hillcreek Fiber Studiowas added in 1986 to provide workshops, tools, books, and supplies for the growingnumber of weavers, spinners and natural dyers. In recent years, we’ve combined the namesinto Carol Leigh’s HILLCREEK FIBER STUDIO.Our business is family owned and operated, founded originally by myself with continuoussupport and assistance from my husband, Dennis Kaiser. Denny joined us full-time in1998, following 25 years as Manager and Comptroller of one of Mid-Missouri's largestcontractor equipment sales/rental agencies. His forte is in providing quality customerservice. He finishes our various frame looms, ships orders, does the accounting, prepares ahot lunch for workshops, demonstrates triangle weaving, and more. I received my Mastersin textiles and have taught weaving, spinning, and natural dyeing around the country. SonCarl Spriggs is a gifted woodworker who was instrumental in developing our patentedadjustable triangle loom. He continues to build the Tri-Looms, and now our adjustablesquare and rectangle looms, as well as Navajo looms, sturdy inkle looms, maru dai, andmany of our other spinning and weaving tools. Carl also is the official bobbin maker forthe old Reeves spinning wheels no longer in production. After teaching Middle schoolScience, daughter Rebecca (Bex) Oliger joined us in 1999 as our Sales Manager andMerchandiser. After developing the knitting part of our business, she founded two knittingbusinesses in town, and has recently returned to using her Education Degree teachingmath & science as well as beginning thru advanced knitting classes, while creating newknitting patterns and working on a book on advanced knitting techniques. Daughter Rosegrew up in the family business and has assisted her Mom and sister teaching weaving, spinning and knitting classes. She is a Photo Journalism graduate from the U of Missouri.Following doing the photography and photo-editing and lay out for the 164 color pages inmy book, Continuous Strand Weaving Method, she moved with her husband, WilliamMartin, to Florida, where she is pursuing her professional Photography career under RoseE. Martin Photography. Phil Spriggs, Carl and Rebecca's Dad, is the computer specialist, record keeper, and publisher of our brochures, newsletters, catalogs and Website.Hillcreek Fiber Studio is located three miles south of Columbia, Missouri, in the LittleBonne Femme Creek valley, looking out on woods, pastures and a state park. We offerover 16 workshop topics throughout the year in spinning, weaving (floor loom, Navajo, continuous strand, inkle), and natural dyeing. Bed and Breakfast at the Studio, and airportshuttle service from St. Louis and Kansas City, are available for workshop participants. Thanks to you, our loyal customers and friends, Carol Leigh's Hillcreek Fiber Studio hascontinued to grow, adding to the variety of looms using the continuous strand weavingmethod, and more variety in products & workshops for you.Our goal is to provide reliable, friendly service with natural, quality products at reasonableprices. We're small enough to provide you with the personal attention and assistance youdeserve, yet large enough to offer one of the largest selections of yarns, natural dyes, weaving and spinning tools, equipment, and fiber-related books in the Midwest.Welcome to our latest product catalog.Naturally, Carol Leigh BrackBrack-Kaiser

Page 4SPRIGGS 7’ ADJUSTABLE TRIANGLE FRAME LOOMAdjusts to nine different settings, from 7 feet down to 3-1/2 feetPatent # 5,146,659The SMART LOOMSThe ONLY Looms which DRESS THEMSELVES!Triangle looms are traditionally used for weaving warm shawls or fashionable bodydrapes. Basic weaving on the Triangle Frame Loom is a very simple process, excellentfor someone who has never woven before, yet it can be challenging for theaccomplished weaver through the use of imaginative color sequences, unusual yarns, advanced weaving techniques, or by combining two or more triangles of various sizes tocreate blankets, ponchos, jackets, wall pieces, and much more.Unique aspects of using the Continuous Strand Weaving Method include:No time is wasted measuring warp or dressing the loom - -The warp is laid onethread at a time as two wefts are woven in a loop and spread open across the loom.It is fast and easy to weave - -An entire 7-foot piece may be woven in one day.Great for showing off handspun or specialty yarns - - There are no heddles orreeds to abuse the yarns. No bobbin or shuttle winding - - Weaving is done from a center-pull ball of yarn. There is no “loom waste” - - Use only the amount of yarn needed. At the 7-footsetting the Adjustable Tri-loom uses only 550 yards, including a 9" fringe.SPRIGGS ADJUSTABLE HEIGHT TRI-POD STANDThese sturdy stands are designed, with tapered pegs at four heights plus a groove in thetop headpiece, to offer 5 settings on which to place the large Adjustable Tri, Square, orRectangle looms. The lowest setting allows the weaver to sit while weaving. Also, auniquely designed hingeing device where the legs join the top allow the legs to bespread to a variety of openings to provide a stable stand at smaller or larger foot-printsto accommodate available floor space.Hillcreek Fiber Studio Two-foot and Three-footTRAVEL TRI-LOOMS have a multitude of uses, including fashion collars, kerchieves, and shoulder drapes, fold for purses, pouches or pillow covers, or make panels forpiecing into larger blankets, garments, and accessories. Usethe loom in your lap, and take it with youeverywhere to weave during free moments. Or, set it securely on theMini Stand for weaving at a table.SPRIGGS MINI STAND: for the HFS Travel Triangle, Square, and Rectangle Looms. A unique clamping arrangement holds thesesmaller looms securely in place.

Page 6As a result of customers asking of the possibility of using the magical Continuous StrandWeaving Method on other shapes, both the Square and Rectangle Looms were born. Eachsquare loom size is designed to match up to the side of its corresponding triangle loom size,in order for weavings from the two to be joined, modular fashion, for a variety of projects. The rectangle looms stemmed from requests to make long fashion scarves.SPRIGGS 55-foot ADJUSTABLE SQUARE LOOMAdjusts to nine different square settings to correspond to the SIDES of eachsetting on the 72--1/27-foot Adjustable Triangle Loom, from 5 feet down to 2feet. In addition, the square loom also adjusts to many sizes of rectangles, one of which lends itself to using the Continuous Strand Weaving Method. The Large Adjustable Square Loom facilitates the weaving of afgans, baby blankets, floor mats, ponchos, and piecing for larger blankets. After laying down the first three "warps" diagonally across the square, loops are woven at the top right corner and spread open to the lowerleft. The unwoven end is then brought up to the top right to weave thenext loop inside the previous one. The yarn moves in a rectangularspiral throughout the piece -- all from one center-pull ball of yarn. The Adjustable Square uses the same Tripod Stand as the Tri-loom.Hillcreek Fiber Studio 18-inch and27-inch TRAVEL SQUARE LOOMSThe 18-inch square will match to the side of thetwo-foot triangle, and the 27-inch square willmatch to the side of the three-foot tri.
