PIPELINESNashville Chapter American Guild of Organists February, 2006FROM THE DEANThere is much exciting work going on at both the national and local levels of the American Guild ofOrganists. Overall membership is growing, and work to interest young people in the art of organ playingthrough the POE program is reaping great rewards. There are many members of our chapter working hardin the background to ensure the ongoing quality and growth of the Nashville AGO. The Executive Committee has been meeting monthly. The Finance Committee, chaired by Richard Shadinger, met on January 10,and Treasurer Jonathan Setzer reported that our finances are strong, due, in part, to generous financialgifts given by some of our members this year. It is because of these gifts that we were able to contract thelevel of programming that we will continue to enjoy in March, April, and May. The Program Committee, chaired by Dean-Elect Wilma Jensen, has been working since November to plan next year’s season and isproposing great things. High-quality programming is the lifeblood of a thriving chapter, but funding aboveand beyond chapter dues will be needed to make it a reality. I hope each and every member will considermaking an extra donation for programming when renewing membership this summer.Elizabeth Smith is chairing the Nominations Committee, and they are now at work to recruit a new slate ofofficers for the 2006-07 season. The slate will be submitted to the Executive Committee in February andpublished in the March newsletter for your consideration. Election of officers will take place at the Aprilmeeting. There is one important bit of housekeeping that I need to bring to your attention. Our chapter has lostmoney on two out of five dinners this season due to ‘no shows’. Please remember that every member whomakes a reservation for dinner must pay for that dinner even if he/she is unable to attend. Linda Wintersdoes an excellent job of managing the reservations and communication with members and the caterer.PLEASE be sure to submit your payment to Jonathan Setzer for any outstanding balance you might have.Thank you!February is ‘Mardi gras’ at Immanuel Baptist and I hope everyone will come celebrate! The recital bystudents and members of our chapter is a fine opportunity to support your colleagues and future leadersin the AGO.Sincerely,JohnDr. John Semingson, DeanThe purpose of the American Guild of Organists is to promote the organ in its historic and evolving roles, toencourage excellence in the performance of organ and choral music, and to provide a forum for mutualsupport, inspiration, education, and certification of Guild members.

Tom Sawyer’s observations of his environment and the people he encounters. In addition, students will make their own observations about key aspects of the novel, and use the novel and the journal writing activity to make observations about their own world and the people they are surrounded by. This unit plan will allow students to examine areas of Missouri, both in Hannibal, and in their own .
