Buffalo Soldier AnalysisWe think that the song “Buffalo Soldier” isabout the African slaves who were stolen fromAfrica and brought to America to fight for theland that was used by native Americans. In thesong, Bob Marley shows that justice forAfricans was ignored and he expresses hisfight for African rights through music.

ReligionBob was very involved with Rastafarianism.Rastafarianism is like praying with singing, to“communicate” with God. Many Rastafarians smokedrugs and wear dreadlocks. They smoke drugsbecause Psalm 104:14 says “he causeth herb (to begrown) for the service of man ” and their hairstylecomes from Leviticus 21:5 “they shall not makebaldness upon their head”.

Why we Chose theSubjectWe chose this subject because both of us think thatBob Marley is not just an artist but an inspiration. Heemerged from the third world, and became theworld’s most popular reggae artist without losinghope along the way- after all crises he went through. We believe that Bob Marley is a music icon that willnever be forgotten and should always be embraced inour history.

DeathBob Marley was diagnosed with acrallentiginous melanoma underneath the nail of atoe. He refused to get his toe amputated dueto religious beliefs. The result of this was thathis melanoma spread throughout his lungs andbrain. On the eleventh of May 1981 Bob Marleysadly passed away at the age of 36. His lastwords to his son Ziggy were “money can’t buylife.”
