The DeSoto KnightPage 2Letting go and letting GodThis past weekend as many of youknow I had the privilege of trainingwith 11 other adult Boy ScoutLeaders at Camp Currier in Eudoraas we develop the procedures andtraining for the just built COPE andClimbing Tower at Camp Currier. As soon as we complete 1 moreweekend of training with the coursebuilder (during weekend of March 79) we will begin training other adultleaders and open the facilities to theScouts starting this Spring.I share this story with you and alsothe fact that I have always been veryafraid of heights and am veryuncomfortable over 15’ up in the air.I was nervous doing the high ropeelements, but kept focused on thegoal. I took one step at a time andwith the help of the Holy Spirit I wasable to accomplish things up untilnow that I would never consider. The reason for me helping volunteerwith this is so that the Scouts cantake advantage of a wonderfulexperience and I can help talk othersthat have the same anxiety to trust inthemselves, the safety equipment andprocedures that we have in place. Are there any activities that you arebeing called to consider? Saying yesto but for whatever reason you haveput off and not started. Is there anyactivity that we are doing that youwould like to be involved with? Isthere a ministry that you would liketo do or start something that is notbeing done at this time?Is there a verse in the Bible that youhold dear but haven’t looked up andread before and after it in a longtime? Is it wanting to come to theMen’s Prayer Breakfast but 7:00AMon Saturday seems too early? Pleaseconsider saying yes to something newor challenging this Lent and knowthat when we say yes we are lettinggo of the past “no” and letting Godwork through us.Just as I had other leadersencouraging me along the high ropeelements, we as Brothers are here tosupport one another’s efforts andthrough friendship and prayer lift oneanother up through the challengingand difficult times that happen to allof us. Each brother has unique giftsthat we can use to help members ofour community so please take amoment and let one of the officersknow what you would like to do andwe can look at ways we can make ithappen. I look forward to listening toyour ideas over the coming weeks ofLent.Just let go and let God during thecoming weeks!Brother Ted

Volume 2, Issue 3Knight of the MonthInsurance CornerCongratulations to Jim Linneman, our February Knight of the Month.Jim has given his time generouslyhelping out organizing theValentines Luncheon, working atthe Lander’s Center, and helpingto coordinate volunteers at theLanders Center as well.Jim serves our council as bothChancellor and Membership Chair.Today, I want to address the growth of theOrder. Membership growth is the fuel thatkeeps this great fraternal engine running. All ofour charitable works at the council, state, national and international level are thanks toour hard-working members. And moremembers equals more charity.Pro-Life ChairBill Sonneman has recentlyaccepted the role as Pro-LifeChair. This position has beenvacant since the passing of PastGrand Knight Fred Middleton.Bill is also a Past Grand Knightand a Past District Deputy andcontinues to serve our counciland the Church in many areas. We know that the membership blitz is a triedand true way for councils to get more men tojoin. We see these pushes often in March, incelebration of Founder’s Day, and again inOctober. These drives are successful becausebrother Knights have increased visibilityspeaking or presenting during and after Massesand at special events. We must remember thatwe have a duty to ask each and every Catholicgentleman to join our ranks for the good of theChurch, the community and the Order.During the rest of the year, we often forget. toask men to join and to bring their families intothe Knights of Columbus family. You probablyknow an eligible Catholic man you could ask tojoin our Knights of Columbus family. Youprobably know an eligible Catholic man youcould ask today.Page 5When telling a prospect about the strengths ofthe Order, don’t forget our greatest fraternalbenefit: our insurance program. This is often aselling point to a potential member who is onthe fence. Many members become Knightssimply to be able to buy coverage to protecttheir family. Soon after, they realize the goodour charitable works do for their community, and they are proud to be members. As your professional Knights of Columbusinsurance agent, I look forward to helping usgrow in fraternity in any way that I can.Call me today.Tim HudsonField Agent2870 Windsor Cv.Horn Lake, MS 38637Office Line: 901-490-7122E-Mail:Tim.Hudson@koc.orgWhat if the only reasonhe hasn’t joined is becauseno one has asked him yet?Family of the MonthState Convention set for AprilFebruary’s council Family of theMonth is the family of Paul,Donna, and Stephen Shahan. All are active at Christ the Kingparish.
