English MondayTerm 4 Week 2.Last week we had a quick look at fairy tales, and re-introduced the 7 steps program to writingsuccess. When we are all back at school (around week 5), we will be completing a writing task usinga visual prompt. We have done this a few times in the last couple of years, but this time the focuswill be on fairy tales.WALT – Plan for, and write fairy tale narratives that use the correct structure and language.WILF – Interesting ides described using the 5 senses (see, hear, smell, feel, and touch).TIB – Fairy tales allow us to use our imagination, practice using descriptive language, learn newwords, and let us study fun stories!On Friday, we looked at creating character with a focus on appearance, personality and feelings.Today we want to move that character information into a profile. You don’t have to use thischaracter, but parts of this character can be used throughout all your imaginative writing.If you are struggling to think of a character, have a look at some of your favourite fairy tales, thenpick parts of those characters that you like.(Howl’s Moving Castle, Tangled, Cars, Frozen, Moana, and most Disney/Pixar movies)

English ThursdayTerm 4 Week 2.We have had a bit of a look into characters, now we will focus on creating and describing the settingof our fairy tales.Writing a fairy tale can start with a few main ideas. It could be a character, magical power, moral, orSETTING!When thinking about settings we have a few questions we need to answer; What types of characters might you find in this setting?What kinds of events might happen in this setting?What magical elements could you create for this setting?Below we have a list of settings. Your task for today is to describe the setting using descriptivelanguage, magical elements, and the 5 senses.

Setting 1Misty Blue Mountains;SmellTasteLookFeelSoundMagic ElementsIn a sentence;Setting 2A Scorching Desert;SmellTasteLookFeelSoundMagic ElementsIn a sentence;Setting 3A School in the CloudsSmellTasteLookFeelSoundMagic ElementsIn a sentence;

English FridayWe have at least one character, and a few different settings, next we will be thinking about somemagical elements. The easiest way to encourage your own imagination is to think of a normalsituation, then add some magic!BANG! She woke up with jolt. What could she have hit this time? When she went tosleep the house was flying at a high enough altitude that nothing should have been inher way. Looking out the front door, she realised her mistake.Mt Everest she thought! Of course!There is no need to re-invent the wheel. Think about every movie, book, T.V. show, cartoon, game,or comic you have ever seen that involves magic and mythical things. Below are some complications,what magic/power/ would help you escape? Write a short paragraph (2-3 lines at least) for each.Here are some ideas, but try to think of ones that would be specific for each situation. GeographyTerm 4 – Week 2Last week we had a quick look at where Overseas-Born Australians came from along with ourAncestral lines.We have realised that ancestry is probably a new word for a lot of us! Ancestry is a family or ethnicdescent, or where your family is originally from. We can all call ourselves Australian, but at somepoint in history, we all came from somewhere else. Even the Aboriginal people migrated to Australiamany years ago from (research suggests) Eastern and Southern Africa.This week we will be looking at Australia’s tourism connections. Current data would be verydifferent from the data we will be looking at today. Mostly because no one is really allowed to visit,or leave! When the borders do open up, it will probably become very busy!Using the data on the following pages, fill out the tables below. Make sure you use the right data forthe right table! (The red table is the inbound travel and tourism) The outbound data has removedthree 0’s from each number too. 1444 000 people visited New Zealand, not 1444.Outbound Travel and TourismDestination Country Number of visitors123456Inbound Travel and TourismOrigin Country Number of people123456Questions; (there is no right answer, but try to think of good reasons)Why do you so many people visited New Zealand?Why do we have so many Chinese visitors? What is it about our country?Out of all these places, where would you visit and why?On the map below, draw lines to and from the top 6 countries (use a map to find the country if youneed to) use two different colours for inbound and outbound.

Visual ArtsStreet Art CollageWALT: explore the work of Portuguese street artist, Bordalo II, and create a reliefanimal collageArt Elements & PrinciplesShape, Texture, Form, Balance, Contrast, UnityBordalo II is known for his large-scale relief installation artworks of animals. These3D installations are created from rubbish, then some are spray painted to make theanimal look real. Bordalo II is motivated to create these artworks to make peopleaware of consumerism and waste, climate change and how trash is killing the world’swildlife.PART ONE: Tuning in, planning drawings and collecting materials.Step 1: Begin by watching this short video with Bordalo II.https://youtu.be/gNuh4ycpy4QStep 2: Create sketches of an endangered animal with a focus on shape, textureand pattern. These are rough ideas. Experiment with different views of your animal –front, side or top views.Step 3: Collect a range of materials from your home to use on your relief collage.See materials list for suggested items.PART TWO: Making a Relief Collage.

Step 4:To build your relief collage you will need a sturdy background surface. This can bemade from part of a cardboard box or just a piece of cardboard.Step 5: Select your favourite animal drawing from your practice sketches.Sketch your animal onto the background. Make sure the animal fills most of thebackground.Step 6: Start by cutting out background shapes with cardboard such as the head orbody. These will need to be glued down first and other features layered on top.*You will need a strong Craft Glue for this. Supertac is highly recommended as youonly need a small amount and it will reliably hold tricky objects in place.Step 7: Begin building up objects to create your animal collage. Start with biggerobjects first, and add smaller/lighter objects on top last.Think about the textures Bordalo II uses in his work, and what textures and patternsare on your animal.Materials & Equipment A good-quality Craft Glue (like Supertac) Scissors Recycled / Found Objects, such as;Bread TagsBubble WrapButtonsCardboardCoffee Cup LidsCorrugated Cardboard – Carboard boxEmpty TubesOld pencils, pens or markersMesh from fruit bagsObjects: Flossers, string, keys, etc.Old ToysPaperPaper ClipsPlastic Food Trays from BiscuitsSafety PinsStrawsExplore more images of Bordalo11’s work for inspiration !Bring your completed relief collage to school when you return.

Is the donkey real or an imagination?
