¶4: SyntaxAs he discusses the temperature records andocean temperatures over the past severaldecades, Gore uses simple, but not short,sentences. He simply provides the facts. Theybuild to the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina. Hissentences then get longer and more complexas he addresses the complex questions thesefacts seem to beg. He asks the rhetoricalquestion, “how could that happen here?” toimply that despite the warnings the factsissued, that people in power ignored them. Hissyntax rarely is choppy, and he thus avoids thescolding, angry tone.
