DIRECTOR’S THANKSJekyll & Hyde was first produced at the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas, on May 1990where it became very successful, played to sold-out houses, and won acclaim fromcritics leading to the run being extended twice, finally closing in July 1990. ChuckWagner played Jekyll & Hyde, with Rebecca Spencer as Emma Carew and Linda Ederas Lucy. Gregory Boyd directed the production. The musical premiered on Broadway atthe Plymouth Theatre on March 21, 1997 and officially opened on April 28. Directedby Robin Phillips, the original cast featured Robert Cuccioli as Jekyll and Hyde, LindaEder as Lucy Harris and Christiane Noll as Emma Carew with Rob Evan originally castas Cuccioli’s alternate, performing the title roles at two performances per week (at matinees). The cast also featured George Robert Merritt as John Utterson, Barrie Ingham asSir Danvers Carew and Martin Van Treuren as “Spider”, all of whom played their respective roles throughout the entire run. The musical played an almost-four-year run andbecame the longest-running show in the history of the Plymouth Theatre, closing after1,543 regular performances on January 7, 2001. We are very proud and excited to takeon this show and could not ask for a better cast and crew. I think you will agree that thisshow is the definition of a true musical. There are 32 musical numbers and interludesin this show. Ken Burdick has done an amazing job of making this show sound likea 100 people on stage with only 20. Along with every musical comes the movementto help the story play out each scene seamlessly. This could not be done without thewonderful contributions of Kelci Cerri and her choreography. Unlike most musicalswhere there is a song and dance routine, Jekyll & Hyde is mostly an all singing show. Ithas taken a great deal of rehearsal time to perfect the timing of music with lines, singingand dancing. This required Ken, Kelci, and myself to collaborate together to make it allwork seamless. We have spent many days and nights planning down to the second tomake sure this show has what it takes to be a great musical. I would like to thank mywife, niece and children for always supporting me and my art of theatre and picking upthe slack when I could not. I hope you enjoy the show.- Adam Cline, DirectorThe Spotlight AuditoriumThe Spotlight Theatre was founded by Emily and Jaques Thiroux in 2001. It ran successfully for12 years. The theatre was built from scratch out of an old Paper Warehouse. The Hayden building where it resides is over 100 years old and is a staple of downtown. The Spotlight Foundationhas since supported local actors, youth arts education, and local theatre groups by providinga space for great theatrical work. Run by Peggy Darling, the Spotlight Foundation has becomesynonymous with quality theatrical productions and educational programs.
