KEY FEATURESThese are the key features of thisspecification model: five pathways available for learners to focuson general performing arts, acting, dance, musical theatre or the circus all content in each pathway is mandatory content is defined in large blocks – calledlearning and teaching modules all assessment is of substantial size andlinked to clear assessment objectivesMANDATORY CONTENTLearners need to have access to teachingand learning approaches that challenge themto deepen and refine their skills over time. This approach is supported by the definitionof mandatory content for all learners, which addresses: development of performing arts skills management of projects self-analysis and reflection appreciation of the performing artsindustry and their future role in it the ability to present themselves and theirachievements effectively.Within the scope of the defined content, youwill be able to provide for learners’ interests inrelation to projects that are relevant locally. The definition of a single set of mandatorycontent within each pathway allows forthe simple and consistent presentation ofrequirements so that you will have work ofa greater depth and standard to assess. It also reduces the potential for overlapbetween units so that similar skills are notover-assessed2LEARNING AND TEACHINGMODULESThe specification is divided into a number oflarge learning and teaching modules. Thisallows content themes to be taught togetherand revisited, to ensure that learners areintegrating their learning and developing theirskills holistically and iteratively. The content foreach learning and teaching module is relatedto a number of assessment units, which maydraw broadly on the content themes in thedefined evidence. For internal assessment units, these learningand teaching modules allow you to uselarge-scale projects easily, as the basis forgenerating evidence for assessment.ASSESSMENT UNITSThe assessment units allow you to assesslearners using the established grades of Pass,Merit and Distinction, which in turn provide foroverall qualification grading on the establishedscale for BTEC Nationals. There are clear links from the learning andteaching modules to the assessment units, each of which is graded against definedcriteria to ensure national standards. The assessment units are equally weighted ineach learning and teaching module.Internal assessment focuses on defining aclear hierarchy of achievement against specificassessment requirements. Each assessment unit has simple, clearevidence and assessment rules, and all termsare used consistently and defined explicitlyacross the assessment units.Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma/Extended Diploma in Performing Arts PracticeSpecification – Issue 1 – August 2020 Pearson Education Limited 2020
