While we can’t do our traditional activity, the Youth Council does intend to host another Silent Auction to benefit the clubs and YouthCouncil for future funding needs. Dates of the Auction will be determined inthe coming month, with the intent to hold in April.Please plan to gather items for the Auction for your clubs!Dog 4-H4-H Dog Project – Record Book Learning SessionIf you are enrolled in the 4-H Dog Project, please plan to join us on Tuesday February 9 from 7-8pm for tips and pointers on completing your Dog Project Record Book! KeyLeaders coordinate educational workshops and other educational resources in their project area for members county-wide.Reach out to Brenda Kwang; bkwang@bouldercounty.org if you’d like to serve as a leader in one of these projects!For the coming year:Cat Key Leader: In the Cat project, youth learn about cat breeds, behavior, good health, grooming, feeding, and more. Wehave a new small group of members wanting to learn about this project area.Swine Superintendent and Key Leader: In this project, members learn about all aspects of the pork industry by raising amarket or breeding animal. Youth learn about selection, feeding, care, training and showing of the swine projects.Purchasing Market Animals for your 4-H ProjectsIt's time to think about purchasing your next market animal! When it comes to purchasing animals for a 4-H project, as always, purchasing any animal is up to the family's discretion. Things you may want to consider include: personal finances,current market prices, feed prices, and costs for overall care. As we approach the new 4-H year, make sure that you discuss as a family what animal and how many animals you would like to purchase! We recommend consulting the MarketAnimal Budget Planner er.docx to help guide your discussions.Meat Quality AssuranceColorado 4-H MQA Requirements: 4-H members enrolling in any market and/or breeding livestock projects for the firsttime regardless of age, must attend a Colorado 4-H Meat Quality Assurance (MQA) program. This will be offered virtuallythis year, so please watch for more information on how to complete. 4-H members will be required to attend a Colorado 4H MQA program a minimum of twice during the course of their 4-H career – once as a junior and once again within oneyear after becoming a senior 4-H member. Both of these programs are a great opportunity for all 4-H livestock members looking to advance theirknowledge of best practices when raising livestock. The 2021 Livestock Field Day will be a collaboration between LarimerCounty 4-H, faculty from the Department of Animal Sciences at CSU, and faculty from the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Some of the topics that will be presented on include; animal handling and welfare, nutrition, quality assurance, meatscience, and animal health. If you have any questions regarding this opportunity, please contact Ashley Schilling(schillas@co.larimer.co.us). This virtual experience will be released in early March.
