BOOK THOUGHTSAnother summer gone but I hope you enjoyed reading all the new releases that came out this year. Our authors fornext year’s Book and Author should be great choices. One of our speakers, Andrew Gross has a new novel called TheSaboteur which will debut in September. Read and enjoy his book The One Man as well. One of our past authors, Susan Reiger, published her second novel, The Heirs and it is an interesting depiction of awealthy New York family and it’s intrigues. J Courtney Sullivan, another of our recent speakers, has written a wonderfulnew book called Saints for All Occassions. She is truly a talented writer who captures a family and its dynamics.Lucky Boy by Shanthi Sekaran is a moving story of an immigrant mother and her son as they struggle to deal with allthe issues a single mother has to endure. She will be with us in March and I know her book will be controversial aswell as riveting . Enjoy them all.Helene BaraschCAPS OF LOVE9 years after our humble beginnings, Caps Of Love charity has been forced to make a major change in the charity directionin order to sustain our organization. As of June 2017 Caps Of Love has provided 70 free wheelchairs and recycled over 193TONS of polypropylene and polyethylene caps and lids.Thousands of adults and children across the entire USA have learned very valuable environmental lessons in learning toidentify their recycling, humanitarian lessons in giving back in their communities to those in great need, and empowermentof making a change in the lives of others through their own actions. As you probably know, plastic is a petroleum product. Due to the very low petroleum market in recent years, the recyclingof polypropylene #5, and polyethylene #2 and #4 are only bringing in about 10 cents a pound . When the market was at itspeak several years ago, we were receiving 26-28 cents a pound! At this very low value it is no longer viable for us to recyclethe polypropylene and the polyethylenes at the local level. This ends the sadly unsuccessful search for a donated warehouse, the Home Depot donated boxes ( 4.50 each!), pallets, stretch wrap and tape, and endless man-hours from local volunteersprocessing the plastic for recycling in Tampa. We will continue the humanitarian aspect of Caps of Love by providing free wheelchairs to handicapped children in the USAby seeking grants and tax deductible monetary donations from our communities. We will also continue to educate the public on the importance of recycling knowledge and involvement in our communities.I look forward to great things as we venture stronger into humanitarian phase of Caps Of Love.Thank you for your support, Valerie MathieuI am personally thanking those of you religiously collected plastic caps for this cause and did the Boca Raton Chapter ofBrandeis proud to be an amazing participants for this wonderful community project. We will still continue to collect sodatabs for Ronald McDonald House and help sick children and their families. The tabs are what make “Pop Tab Bracelets”. These unusual, fun bracelets sell for 5.00 to 15.00 and make a real fashionstatement! They are the brainchild of a local teenager, Lexi Masciarella.
