We have a couple of events comingup in the next couple of months that if your schedule allows, you should takeadvantage of.On March 10th we’ll host our 4th District Cabinet meeting of the Lions yearat Ft. William Henry in Lake George. As we have at our first three cabinetmeetings, we’ll use this opportunity to share with everyone some valuableinformation. For this meeting we’ve arranged for the leaders of many of theassociations that we serve alongside of to share an overview of their respectivemissions. We’re honored that the Lions Eye Institute, Hearing Conservation.continued on next pageLions International PresidentDr. Naresh Aggarwal’s pinNew York State & Bermuda MD20District 20Y2District Governor John McDonald’s pin

2Society, Northeast Association for the Blind at Albany (NABA), Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired(CABVI), Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Glens Falls Sight Society and the Lions Eye Bank at Albany will be able to attend. All ofthese fine organizations are committed to serving the Lions Mission. This is a great opportunity to learn more about them and todetermine if any of their organizations is one that you may be able to devote some time to serving! As we enter our second century of service, Lions Clubs International will celebrate our 40th annual Lions Day with the UnitedNations with events in three United Nations locations around the world. These events will commemorate our long-standingrelationship as a consultative NGO to the United Nations (UN) starting in 1945 when Lions leaders were asked to help developthe NGO charter for the UN. The theme for all three events is “Working Together Globally to Combat Diabetes.” The event inNYC will take place on Saturday March 24th. Registrations always fill up quickly, so if this event interests you I encourage youto act quickly to see if there is still room to participate. For more information go to kcity.php.Our MD20 NYS & Bermuda Lions Convention will be held this year from May 4 – 6, 2018 in Rochester. I’m excited to sharethat we’ve taken steps to open up our sessions in such a way that more members can participate. On Saturday morning May 5th,in lieu of 4 concurrent educational sessions (as we’ve done in the past) we’ll host one general session from 9:30 – 11:30 thatwill cover two separate topics. We’re honored that Charles Macfarlane, CEO of the American Association of Diabetes Educators(A.A.D.E.) and Dr. David Korones, Chief of the Division of Pediatric Palliative Care and Professor of Pediatrics, Oncology, andNeurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center will be joining us. Diabetes and Childhood Cancer are two areas that weas Lions will be concentrating our focus on moving forward. Mr. Macfarlane and Dr. Korones are experts in their respective fieldof Diabetes and Childhood Cancer. By hosting one general session, our MD20 team has made it possible for convention attendeesto attend without competing with other important topics. Following lunch that same day, we’ll host 4 concurrent sessions ontopics that also appeal to everyone. Camp Abilities, How to Attract Younger Members, How to Plan a Large Event and GlobalAction Team: Service, Membership & Leadership will be offered. Following the sessions there will be an opportunity to witness aCamp Abilities goalball demonstration from local campers in addition to a Beep Baseball demonstration from the Rochester BeepBaseball team. To register for the convention, please go to As District Governor I’ll be at all of these worthwhile events. I hope to see many of you there as well!Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!Yours in Lionism,District Governor Lion John McDonaldWE SERVE
