OPERATIONS MANUAL1.5 HOW MANY STUDENTS AREREQUIRED TO BEGIN A CHURCHCENTERED BIBLE SCHOOL?You could actually start a class with four tosix interested students who were willing toapply themselves to study. In fact, you canapprentice students one-on-one. Classes seemto have the best “flow dynamic” if there are aminimum of eight to twelve in the room, so wedo try to aim for this, if possible.1.6 PARTICIPANTS MAY AUDIT ORTAKE COURSES FOR CREDITLamad courses provide the opportunity forSpirit-anointed mentoring, and most coursescan be open to the entire congregation. In atypical class, you may have students who areauditing the course sitting next to those who aretaking the course for credit. If you are offeringthe teaching sequence on a Wednesday evening,you will even have people who are simplysitting in and not auditing the course or taking itfor credit.This allows you to meet the needs of eachstudent where he is. However, students shouldbe encouraged to put forth the extra effort totake the courses for credit. This demands moreof them, and they in turn receive more from thecourse. Challenging people to stretch themselves speeds their growth.When Auditing: The auditing student isfree to do as little or as much of the coursework as he desires. Minimally, he will beencouraged to carefully read and personalizethe primary text used in the course, and write apaper summarizing how God has changed hislife as a result of the course. He does not taketests and receives no course grade. Each churchcampus may set any auditing fee desired. Don’tforget: “We do not value what costs us nothing.” Probably a minimum of 15 should becharged when students audit a course (plus thecost of the text book.)SECTION ONE / 3When taking courses for credit: The forcredit student is to read all required texts (generally three books per course), complete allassignments, take all required tests, and receivea course grade. The church may set the tuitionfee, which it keeps to build its Bible school andpay its instructors. Churches often charge from 25 to 75 per course, sometimes on a slidingscale depending on family income and numberof dependents. Rather than charge tuition, someChurch-centered Bible schools have simplytaken up a weekly offering to go as a gift to theinstructor. This also seems to work well.1.7 THE PART-TIME STUDENT:Most students will be part-time, enrolling inonly one or two courses offered by your localchurch at a time.1.8 THE FULL-TIME STUDENT:This student takes at least five courses eachquarter. He will take some courses:a) in the classroom setting at the churchcentered Bible school;b) through one-on-one instruction withinstructors from the church-centered campus.This occurs when the student wants to take acourse that is not being offered in a classroomsetting, and there is an instructor in the churchcentered Bible school who is willing to providethe mentoring on a one-to-one basis.c) directly from CLU with CLU faculty whoare not a part of the particular church-centeredBible school. This occurs when the studentwants to take a course not being offered in aclassroom setting, and there is no instructor inthe church-centered Bible school who is willingor able to provide the mentoring on a one-toone basis. Therefore, the student works directlywith CLU for this course. In this case, the

4 / SECTION ONEstudent is billed for the course according toCLU’s tuition rate (currently 225 for a threecredit course), rather than the church-centeredBible school’s tuition billing rate.Lamad curriculum offers the opportunity forsmall group interaction, pastoral oversight andguidance, fellowship, teaching, hands-onexperience in the classroom, and practica in thelocal church. Thus, Lamad training is active,rather than passive. The more active the studentis in the learning process, the faster he willgrow.Lamad courses help the local church disciple and train its members, under the church’spastoral oversight, while incorporating thechurch’s particular theological and spiritualemphases. No additional buildings need be builtor heated, and there is little additional expense.Truly, the church-centered Bible School is anidea whose time has come.Church-centered Bible schools may run keyfoundational courses regularly, thus insuringthat all current and new church members receive thorough basic training and discipling.This helps all new congregational membersbecome fully established in Christ, without thenecessity of the senior pastor teaching the samebasic themes over and over.At the same time, the student who desirescan be working toward one of several accredited degrees.1.9 FITTING LAMAD COURSES INTOYOUR CHURCH’S PROGRAMThe church-centered Bible School can offercourses in many of the time slots and settingsalready utilized for church services. This allows the coming together ofstudents to be considered a “facilitator” grouprather than a class. That means the focus ofthese times can be on discussing the students’answers to the week’s work, any questions theyhave, things they feel God has spoken into theirlives, and any difficulties they are experiencingin appropriating life changes the lesson hascalled for.The “instructor” can serve as a “facilitator”of a lively Spirit-anointed discussion, as hediscerns what God wants to do among thegathering and cultivates the flow and anointingof the Holy Spirit in a corporate discussion.

OPERATIONS MANUAL“How to’s” for doing this may be found infaculty training materials and in a facultytraining course entitled “MIN 310 ExperiencingGod in the Small Group.” This is discussed inmore detail later in this manual.The group meeting need not be a typicallyinstructional time, but can instead be a prophetic sharing of revelation between the facilitator and the group. This is ideal especially ifyou are running courses in the home cell groupor Sunday School time slots. The discussionscan be lively and kept to 45 minutes or so.Since the participants have all done study,reading, and prayer on the topic at hand, thegroup time becomes a “sharing of revelations”rather than a “sharing of ignorance” (i.e. discussions for which no one is prepared). And, sinceit is not a lecture, the group is not limited by thecommunication skills of the group leader.In the case of DVD courses: The churchcentered Bible school may choose to purchasethe DVDs itself, rather than having each studentpurchase the DVD or CD series. Plan forapproximately a two-hour class. The church candecide which way it wants to go with eachcourse.1.12 MAGNET TOPICS IN CELLGROUPS RESULTING IN EVANGELISMIf the church decides to utilize Lamadcourses in home cell time slots, they could offer“magnet” courses in some of the cell groups totarget outsiders, thus using the cell as an evangelism cell.Appropriate topical courses include: DreamInterpretation, Take Charge of Your Health,Cornerstones of Communication, Enrich YourMarriage, Parenting for Success, Creating YourMission Statement, Visionary Leadership,Creative Problem Solving, and many otherswhich you felt would meet needs of people inyour community. (Feel free to adjust courseSECTION ONE / 5titles if necessary when marketing these to yourcommunity; for example, “Christian DreamInterpretation” might become “Dream Interpretation”). With proper marketing (see the appropriate chapter) a church could attract unbelievers to such 12-week series, and win them to theLord through the friendship and fellowship ofthe members of the cell group.This approach could also work for weekendseminars or retreats on any of the above topics,because many people are looking for lifeenriching seminars. Any student who desiredcollege credit could follow up the weekendseminar by completing the course in follow upclassroom settings, over a series of weeks, or inweekend seminars.1.13 SUNDAY AND WEDNESDAYEVENINGSThere is no reason a pastor couldn’t teach acourse in 12 weeks on Wednesday or Sundayevenings, teaching 45 minutes to one hour eachweek. Students wanting credit would do additional homework during the week. Auditorswould only do work to the level they desired.This would help you as a pastor offer systematic, biblically-based, Spirit-anointed, lifetransforming training sequences. Your peoplewould intensify their growth by doing additional study during the week, and receivingcredits and degrees for their efforts. An exceptional value and opportunity for you and yourpeople!1.14 EVERYONE PREPARES - NOTJUST THE PASTOR!As a pastor, you know how much you growas you prepare for a message. Can you imaginehaving your entire congregation preparing forthe message along with you? Imagine theenhanced growth in each of their lives! Insmaller group sessions, such as Sunday andWednesday evenings, you can couple together

6 / SECTION ONEsome teaching with a Spirit-anointed discussiontime in which people share how they are applying the truths to their lives.With over one hundred courses to choosefrom, the Holy Spirit can lead you quarter byquarter to choose that course which meets theneeds of your people at that particular time.1.15 BIBLE SCHOOL MORNING OREVENING CLASSESOf course, churches may also run Monday,Tuesday, or Thursday evening (or morning)two-hour Bible school sessions in which theyoffer one or several courses from which participants may choose. A church of a few hundredcould offer up to three courses each quarter. Achurch of a few thousand could offer ten totwelve courses per quarter. Churches may offertwo or three Bible school courses on the sameevening. Since each class would run about twohours, students would choose one of the coursesto be involved in.1.16 HOME SCHOOLERS STARTINGCOLLEGE IN TENTH GRADEIn New York State, if a high school studentearns 24 college credits, he automaticallyreceives a high school (equivalency) diplomafrom the state. Most states have similar laws.Check with your State Education Department.We have had many homeschoolers begin college courses in their tenth year of high school(about age 15), taking up to a full load (i.e. fivecourses per quarter), and receiving straight“A”s on their course work. Missions trips andother church-related work were accepted aspractica toward their degree. Some have completed four years’ work by age 19 and receivedtheir Bachelor’s degree.OPERATIONS MANUAL1.17 HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATEAPPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM - 12-18MONTHS(designed for high school graduates andyoung adults)Some churches have begun Graduate Apprenticeship Programs, wherein high schoolgraduates are invited to be apprenticed by thepastor and church leadership for 12 - 18months. This can be offered with as few as oneto three participants. Often 18-year-olds are notsure what to do with their lives. Rather thangoing to a secular college, or just wasting time,your church could devise a training/apprenticeship/practicum experience for these students.You can devise this as the Lord leads you. Hereis an example of one such church program:1) Four quarters of Bible College Training - Three courses each quarter, including:Understanding the Bible, Life of Christ, Actsand Epistles, Foundational Experiences, TheLaw and the Spirit, Communion With God,Naturally Supernatural, Increasing the Anointing, Apprenticed to Leadership, Gifted toSucceed, Creating Your Mission Statement, anda missions course2) A Missions Practicum - Your churchcan develop a missions experience for theyouth, or you may utilize such programs asTeen Mania or Youth With a Mission, whichoffer outstanding missions opportunities lastingfrom ten days to two months.3) Practicum work in the local church Students have various responsibilities aroundthe local church which will improve their skills.This can involve anything, including clerical,assistant teachers and youth workers, groundsupkeep, etc.

OPERATIONS MANUAL1.18 NEW MEMBERSHIP CLASSESWe have designed a course especially fornew members entitled “The Law and theSpirit.” It includes two basic texts: The Supernatural Church, which covers fourteendistinctives of a church which is ministering inthe anointing of the Holy Spirit; and 49 Lies IRejected When I Renounced Phariseeism, adevotional which may be completed outside ofclass by students seeking credit for the course.1.19 ELDERSHIP TRAININGFive-fold team ministry (Eph. 4:11) is adirection in which we sense God is leading Hischurch. We recommend that you take yourelders, deacons, and other church leadersthrough the course “Building Dynamic Teams”which examines indepth how a five fold teamfunctions. This can greatly enhance the teamdynamics and ultimate productivity and successof your church’s leadership staff.1.20 BENEFITS OF UTILIZING THISLAMAD CURRICULUM PACKAGE:u Since quality Bible College training isprovided at affordable costs, and iseasily accessible within their owncommunity through a person or churchthey trust, many of your church members will avail themselves of ongoingtraining who would otherwise neverattend Bible college. Each course focuses on drawingstudents into ongoing intimacy with God. Weutilize the “Leader’s Paradigm” for discoveringtruth, and we focus on “delight-centered education”.OPERATIONS MANUALLamad Faculty Handbook delineates theseunique emphases.
