This section will have you enjoying your favourite audiovisual experience as quickly as possible, but to obtain theoptimum performance you should spend a few moments studyingthese instructions and the Set-up Manual. Contained within are aseries of easy-to-follow steps which will have you up and runningin the minimum of time.beforeyou startMake sure that all components of your audio-visual system aredisconnected from the AC supply whenever you change anyconnections.positioningThe AV32R is designed to run warm during normal operation.Please ensure that there is adequate ventilation above and belowthe unit. We recommend that you do not place your AV32Rabove anything that runs hot.powerconnectionCheck that the power button is out so that power is off when youplug in(1). Using the cable supplied, connect the socket on theback of your AV32R to an AC supply outlet. For the best soundand picture quality, we recommend that you do not use multiplug adaptors.1.The power button is a latching switch. These back channels should be placedbetween the usual surround left and surround right loudspeakers.CAUTIONRISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCKDO NOT OPENSURR. LEFTCENTRELEFTSURR. RIGHTSUBRIGHTANALOG OUTPUTRnlyCCAll speakers (with the exception of the subwoofer) should bearranged around your normal viewing/listening position, formingapprox. a circle. Don’t worry if you are unable to position yourspeakers at different distances from your preferred listeningposition, the AV32R can be set up to take account of differentdistances. The subwoofer can be placed almost anywhere, butwe recommend you experiment to obtain the best result.BACKBACKRIGHTLEFTSURR.DABMDAfter placing the loudspeakers (and connecting them to suitablepower amplifiers) connect each channel to the correspondingANALOG OUTPUT sockets at the rear of the AV32R. You cancombine amplifiers from different manufacturers, the AV32R willcater for different amplifier gains.Don’t worry if you don’t have all speakers available; whilst youwill not benefit from the full potential of surround sound, you canconfigure the AV32R to achieve the best result independent ofmost speaker shortfalls you may have in your system at this stage.operating manual 17

The blue power LED will come on,the front panel display window will light up and a few secondslater will show ‘SELFTEST’ and ‘TAG McLaren’, then the softwareversion number (such as ‘V3.60’) and ‘AV32R GB-D’(1). The muterelay will click briefly(2).standbyThe AV32R has a standby mode(3), which can be entered usingthe standby key on the Remote Control or by pressing the mutekey on the front panel for more than three seconds. The bluepower LED will dim, the front panel display (and OSD) will show‘going to standby’ then will switch off. Normal operation may beresumed by turning the volume knob or pressing any front panelbutton or Remote key (other than light) at any time(4).The video outputs are still active in standby mode; this enablesyou to still watch your television even when the AV32R is instandby.1.2.3.4.18 operating manualThis text can be personalised by you, see personalised message in set-up manual(GB-D stands for English - German language support). Spanish and French arealso availableThe output is muted when the power is switched on to allow all the voltages tostabilize. This protects the internal components on your AV32R, amplifier andloudspeakers and prevents unpleasant switching noises from upsetting yourlistening or viewing experienceThe power consumption in standby mode is less than 25WThe macro keys m1 to m4 will not reinstate the power unless a sequence ofoperations has been programmed into them. Please see the ‘programming theremote control’ chapter for further details on how to do this. The REMOTESELECTION keys other than av will also not reinstate the powerstandbyautobalancemutetape
