Weacknowledge with deep gratitude theworks of the Sisters of Saint Joseph ofthe Sacred Heart.St Mary of the Cross MacKillopOn Sunday 8 August we celebratedthe feast of Saint Mary of the CrossMacKillop, the founder of the Sistersof St Joseph. The Sisters establishedMount Carmel Primary School (OurLady of Mount Carmel Parish School)and Mount Carmel Girls School (MountCarmel College). While we celebrate a rich legacy andtheir significant impact on Australiansociety, that commenced over 150 yearsago, we also recommit ourselves to theJosephite charism. Just as Mary did, wetoo are also called to make a differencefor our times, with a spirit of generosity, open to the changing needs of societyand prepared to stand with people.Unfortunately we couldn’t have ourusual whole school mass and carnivalstyle celebrations on Friday, but westarted the day with a lovely liturgyand after lunch we had class activitiesto celebrate the feast day and then theawards for best costumes, from photossubmitted by students.Through the example of Mary MacKillop,May we learn to recognise God’s will forus and trust in God’s providence.May her life and service be a light to ourpath,Awakening in us a deep respect for thosewho suffer and a passion for justice.May we share in her courage, see withher vision, and love with her heart.“Never see a need without doingsomething about it”. “We must teachmore by example than by word”Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillopCOVIDA big thank you to the whole Collegecommunity for their continuedsupport of the South AustralianCOVID-19 restrictions over the pastweek.Continued on page 2.In this issue. From the Principal. 1Diary Dates. 2Student Absences/Late Arrivals. 2Important Information. 2From the Deputy Principal. 3Year 8 Awards. 3Year 8 Japanese Recital. 3Footloose: The Musical. 4Western Technical College. 5Future Pathways . 6Community Noticeboard. 7A Catholic co-educational Years 7-12 secondary school in the Josephite TraditionCampus: 33 Newcastle Street, Rosewater SA 5013 Postal address: PO Box 35, Port Adelaide SA 5015T: (08) 8447 0500 E: mcc@mcc.catholic.edu.au www.mcc.catholic.edu.au

From the Deputy PrincipalGod of the Dreaming, you showyourself to us in dreamers, seers, and prophets. We thank you for all those who, like Mary MacKillop, have helpedus to see the possibilities for ourcountry and its people. As westruggle to realise our dreamsfor a just, compassionate world, may we witness to our world thetrue meaning of fair play andcare for the oppressed. Help us touphold the importance of spiritualrealities. We pray that we willcherish particularly, the gifts of theindigenous peoples of our lands, and those new to our shores.Teach us that, in the richness andstrength of our diversity, lie ourpossibilities for becoming one.AmenSubject Selection ProcessDuring the past week we have spokento students during their PastoralCare sessions about the process forselecting their subjects for next year. This is an important process for anumber of reasons. Firstly, it meansthat students are taking control oftheir own learning and are makingdecisions about what that mightlook like in the future. Secondly, the choices that students make willinfluence our timetabling and staffingfor next year. These decisions needto be made over the next month, therefore, we ask that students thinkabout their choices very carefully.Live, Learn, Lead – Student SurveysOn Thursday all students willcomplete the Catholic Education,South Australia – Live, Learn, LeadSurvey duringtheir pastoral caresession. This survey willmeasure the student perception ofschool performance against the LLLstandard. The Living Learning LeadingFramework gives us a foundation forunderstanding what we do at MountCarmel College – who we are, whatwe value and how we partner with ourfamilies to ensure our students thrive. At the heart of our framework is ourcommitment to our students and ourunderstanding of all people – we seethem as ‘thriving people, capablelearners, leaders for the world Goddesires.’If there are any questions about anyaspect of this survey, please contactthe College.Jon Cenko, Deputy PrincipalLast week we had the pleasure of presentingsome of our Year 8 students with anAward for their outstanding achievementsduring Semester 1. Coronavirus is also adding to the challenges faced by carers. Many may be social isolating with the person living with dementia or caring for others from afar. Somebody may tell you about their caregiving responsibilities and ask for additional support. We’ve got lots of information on our website they might find useful, including a carers guide. You can also signpost carers to Dementia .
