Sport NewsCross countryOn Thursday the 30th March our cross country season culminated in the Catholic Zone Championships held at St Edwards DaisyHill. We were expecting big things from the team who had won at St Anthony’s and contained seven district runners. The coursewas extremely tricky and all runners were under strict instructions to be at the pointy end of the race when it entered the‘squeeze bridge.’ I am pleased to say that all runners put their best foot forward and used this advice to their advantage withpassing opportunities limited until later in the race. The day started well with the senior girls dominating their race getting all fiverunners home in the top 13 places. This trend continued with all remaining age groups doing well and placing themselves in theframe for their respective age championship trophy. There were numerous race winners and place getters on the day but theoverall team effort was the most pleasing aspect to see with runners fighting for position down in the race equally important asthose placing individually. We won two age championships and came second in three of the remaining four. This effort ensured that we were to have ourname on the aggregate trophy for the first time. It was a great team effort and all students were rightly proud of what they hadachieved. It was a great season with two overall wins from two carnivals and 7 rep runners beating our previous best of 5. Thank you to allof the parents who not only came out and supported the runners but kicked them out of bed that little bit earlier to ensure thatthey were here for training on time. Finally a big thank you and well done to all students who ran throughout the year, a greatseason with not only big individual improvements abut a superb team effort which produced some deserved results.AFLCongratulations to the 12 girls in the AFL team who defeated St Edwards 14-8 to 2-2 on Friday to book their place in the nextround of the Brisbane Lions cup on Thurdsay. It was a ruthless display bringing back memories of the 2011 team. Lara Johnsonwas named player of the match and received the game ball from the umpire, but every girl played well and never let St Edwardsinto the match through strong defence and piercing runs.Calling all ScientistsScience Fair 2013We are holding a Science Fair on Monday 2nd September.
