That is an alarming number. There is also acrisis of divorce in our generation like never before.Here is another figure that should trouble you: 50%of new marriages will end in divorce within the firstfive years.6

This book is broken down into 40days (chapters). Each day starts with a bible versethat teaches a truth from that chapter.9

Day 1It all starts with GodScripture Meditation: “Then the Lord God said, “It isnot good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper whois right for him.” Genesis 2:18 GW“If not for God, we will not be married today.” Thatwas my shocking admission to my wife one day aftera heated argument.“Well, you sure right.” She responded.When I married Faith, I’ll admit I was looking for agood woman who would serve me, meet my needsand cherish me a kingdom in my own little kingdom.That’s what I thought a successful marriage was:finding someone to serve you. That’s because I wasall I saw growing up in a different country where Iwas born. I thought men were superior to women.15

The first two years of our marriage was not verygood to say the least. You see, we married young,naïve and inexperienced about biblical marriage. Wehad no marital model to follow. Both of our parentsdidn’t have a strong, healthy and passionatemarriage.In our brokenness and despair I started considering away out of the marriage. I was ready for a break up.“This felt like a marriage from hell.“My needs weren’t met,” I complained to God.“I don’t know how to meet my wife’s need” Icontinued in my prayer.We had nothing else to help us so we decided tostudy the bible especially in the scriptures regardingmarriage, bought books, attended conferences andtook some online marriage courses.Gradually the lord began to do a great work in ourhearts. We began to learn what a marriage formheaven looks like and were determined to make ithappen for us.I dropped my faulty thinking and orientationregarding marriage. I understood that marriage16

wasn’t about satisfying my needs only - The greatestmarriage is two servants in love. Just like Jesus saidthat two shall become one – That’s the goal of heavenin putting two people together to do life together.A marriage from heaven starts with God. PuttingGod first in your marriage is the wisest investmentyou can ever make in your marriage.A godless marriage is a marriage from hell.Whether you are a spiritual person or not God is thefoundation to every marriage. He is the foundationbecause He created it. Because He created marriage,he alone can teach you how to have a marriage fromheaven.Every successful satisfying relationship starts with asatisfying relationship with Jesus. As you developthat growing relationship with Jesus, he will fill upyour love tank until it overflows. It will be easier foryou to love and be loved.Seeking the face of God will cause a great spiritualgrowth in you that will have a positive effect in yourmarriage.The scripture says, “For I know the plans I have for you,says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, togive you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 (TLB)17

Like we said earlier, a growing relationship withJesus is a must if you’re seeking a blessedrelationship and marriage. During tough times you’llneed something stronger than yourself to rely on to remaincommitted.Loving God and having a strong and growingrelationship with Jesus is not a requirement for youonly but also for your mate. If a person cannot loveGod, how will they love you?For God is love.A good Jesus disciple makes a good spouse.According to God marriage is based upon covenant.Covenant is not the type of relationship that you goback-and-forth from but rather the type that lasts fora lifetime.By acknowledging God within your relationship youacknowledge His standards, His ways and His idealsin the treatment of each other. God’s words providesa compass that both parties have to abide by anddon’t have the power to change.Strong marriages have God in the midst of it.Experiencing the love of God teaches you what godlylove looks and feels like. Also a fulfilling relationshipwith Christ takes pressure away from your mate. You18
