Remote learning, distance education and online learning during the COVID19 pandemic: A Resource List Prepared by the World Bank’s Edtech TeamIntroduction"Synchronous learning" (meaning that two or more learners areconnected simultaneously or in real-time using the same platformor communication channel, for instance, a video conference) and"asynchronous learning" (meaning that learners access the samematerial at different times and locations, for instance, using ae-learning websites at different points).The selection of resources and platforms that you will find herehas been elaborated in order to facilitate the rapid identificationof helpful technological solutions that could be used to supportremote learning.The list provided here is not meant to be comprehensive,however, the selection has been driven by prioritizing resourcesand solutions that are free (or freemium), offline friendly or areavailable in more than one language (especially beyond, English).This list offers a glimpse of the kind of solutions that can beincorporated to support remote learning for different contexts,levels of connectivity, levels of education or subject.Additional resources and platforms have been includedidentifying digital learning resources provided by governments.In the interest of improving the diversity of channels to delivereducational resources and guidance to students and teachers,you will find here a selection of examples which provide differentmodalities of educational television and interactive radioinstruction. These additional resources are categorized bycountry and language as well.A growing list of repositories, selection of online libraries andcompilation of educational resources, reading materials, lessonplans has been compiled here. You can also find here some of theinitiatives adopted by different countries to deliver content andtextbooks to the student (and parents).In using these resources, please be aware of privacy and dataprotection terms and conditions of the resources, describedhere. Where applicable, students must have parents or legalguardians read these terms with them.If you are looking for resources that can be used in environmentswith limited or no Internet access, you can select thoseresources that are categorized as "offline" (meaning that afterdownloading them you can use it in environments of noconnectivity or does not require connectivity to use, as in the caseof analog television resources). In addition, when some platformsare categorized in terms of interaction, the distinction betweensynchronous and asynchronous might be of help.Each of the categories included here will offer differentpedagogical opportunities for educators and students.
