His inferiority, and his lack of confidence. His clumsiness, his inferiority, and his lack of confidence. Hisstupidity, his clumsiness, his inferiority, and his lack ofconfidence. . --------------PEPPERMINT PATTYDid you know that Chuck has never pitched a winningbaseball game? Never been able to keep a kite in the air? Neverwon a game of checkers? And never successfully punted afootball? Sometimes I marvel at his consistency.MARCIEI think Charles has nice -------------------SNOOPYIt is truly a dog's life. YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (2015)2LUCYNow Linus, I want you to take a good look at Charlie Brown'sface. Now, this is what you call a failureface. Notice how it hasfailure written all over it. Study it carefully. You rarely see such agood example. Notice the deep lines, the dull vacant look in hiseyes -- yes I would say this is the finest example of a failure faceyou're liable to see in a long -------------------CHARLIE BROWNSome days I wake up early and watch the sun rise. And I thinkhow beautiful it is. How my life lies before me. And I get verypositive feeling about things . . . Like this morning forinstance, the sky is so clear and the sun is so bright. . . The past has always interestedpeople. I must admit, however, that I don't know much about it.I wasn't here when it -------------------------------------------

YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (2015)4CHARLIE BROWN(Sittingonthebench)I think lunchtime is about the worst time of the day for me.Always having to sit here alone. Of course, sometimes morningsaren't so pleasant, either - waking up and wondering if anyonewould really miss me if I never got out of bed. Then there's thenight, too - lying there and thinking about all the stupidthings I've done during the day. And all those hours in between- when I do all those stupid things. Well, lunchtime is amongthe worst times of the day for me.I guess I'd better see what I've got. Peanut Butter. Somepsychiatrists say that people who eat peanut butter sandwichesare lonely. I guess they're right.(Hesaysthiswhilechewing.)And when you're reallylonely, the peanut butter sticks to the roof of your dwipeshisfingersonthebench.)Boy the PTA sure did a good job of painting these benches.(Looksover)There's that cute little redheaded girl eating her lunch over there.I wonder what she'd do if I went over and asked her if I could sitand have lunch with her. She'd probably laugh right in my face. It's hard on a face when it gets laughed in. There's an emptyplace next to her on the bench. There's no reason why I couldn'tjust go over and sit there. I could do that right now.All I have to do is stand up.(Hestandsup.)I'm standing up.(Hesitsdown)I'm sitting down. I'm a coward.I'm so much of a coward she probably wouldn't even think oflooking at me. She hardly ever does look at me. In fact, I can'tremember her ever looking at me. Why shouldn't she look at me?Is there any reason in the world why she shouldn't look at me?Is she so great and I'm so small that she can't spare one littlemoment.

YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (2015)5CHARLIE BROWN (continued)(Hestops)She's looking at me. She's looking at me.(Hepanicsandputshislunchbagonhishead.)PATTY ANN(EnteringwithaPEGGYJEAN)No, you're thinking of that other dress, the one I wore toLucinda's Party. The one I'm talking about was the very lightblue one and it had a design embroidered around the waist.PEGGY JEANI don't remember.PATTY ANN(Shetakesapencilanddrawsonthepaperbag)Something like this. The skirt went out like this and it had thesepuffy sleeves and a sash like this.PEGGY JEANOh yes, I remember.PATTY ANNWell, that was the dress I was wearing last week when I metFrieda and she said she'd seen one just like it over at.(adlibuntiloffstage)CHARLIE BROWN(Stillwiththebagonhishead)Lunchtime IS among the worst times of day for me. If that littleredheaded girl is looking at me with this stupid bag over my headshe must think I'm the biggest fool alive. But if she isn't lookingat me, then maybe I could take it off quickly and she'd nevernotice it. On the other hand, I can't tell if she's looking or notuntil I take it off. Then again, if I never take it off, I'll never haveto know if she was looking or not. On the other hand,it's very hard to breathe in he's not looking at me. I wonder why she never looks at me.(Theschoolbellringsagain.)

YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (2015)6CHARLIE BROWN (continued)Oh well, one more lunch hour over with. Only two thousand, eight hundred and sixty-three to go.SECTION 3: Schroeder and LucySONG – SCHROEDERLUCYD'YA KNOW SOMETHING SCHROEDER?I THINK THEY WAY YOU PLAY THE PIANO IS NICE.D'YA KNOW SOMETHING ELSE?IT'S ALWAYS BEEN MY DREAM,THAT I'D MARRY A MAN WHO PLAYS THE PIANO.AT PARTIES HE PLAYS SOMETHING NICELIKE APRIL SHOWERS.I'M SURE YOU COULD PLAY SOMETHING NICELIKE APRIL SHOWERS.OR EVEN FRERE JACQUESBEETHOVEN'S NICE TOO.JUST IMAGINE.WHAT WOULD YOU THINK IF SOMEDAY YOU AND I SHOULD GETMARRIED?WOULDN'T YOU LIKE THAT IF SOME DAY WE TWO SHOULD GETMARRIED.(Schroederducksunderhispiano.)LUCYMy Aunt Marian was right.Never try to discuss marriage with a musician.

YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (2015)7SECTION 4: Quick ChangesPIG PENHappiness is a fleeting thing, Freida, but I think that a man cancome closer to it by directing the forces of his life to a single goalthat he believes in. YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN SYou give me back my blanket.LUCYNo! I've got it and I'm going to keep it. This is just the start youneed to help you break this disgusting habit.LINUSApparently you haven't read the latest scientific reports. Ablanket is as important to a child as a hobby is to an adult. Many a man spends his time restoring antique automobiles, orbuilding model trains, or collecting old telephones, or evenstudying about the Civil War. This is called playing with the past.LUCYReally?LINUSCertainly. And this is good, for it helps these men to cope withtheir everyday problems. Now, I feel that it is going to beabsolutely necessary for me to get me blanket back,so I'm just going to have to give it a good 's surprising what you can accomplish with a little smoothtalking and some fast action.SONG – MY BLANKET AND MELINUSGOT YA BACK AGAIN. AWAYAND LEAVE IT ON THE.AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!Don't ever let me do that again!

YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (2015)16LUCYYou're a hopeless case, Linus.(Exits)LINUSI thought I could do it. I intend to be a queen. When I growup I'm going to be the greatest queen there ever was. And I'll livein a big palace with a big front lawn and have lots of beautifuldresses to wear. And, when I go out in my coach all the people.SHERMY(Interruptingher)Lucy!LUCYAll the people will wave, and I will SHOUT at them. And.SHERMYLucy, I believe queen is an inherited title. Isn’t that right?

YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (2015)17PIG PENYes - a person can only be queen by being born into a royalfamily of the correct lineage so that she can assume the throneafter the death of the reining monarch. I can't think of anypossible way that you could ever become a queen.SHERMYI'm sorry Lucy, but it's hingwassaid)And in the summer time, I will go to my summer palace and I willwear my crown in swimming and everything. And all the peoplewill cheer and I will (Shepauses)WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN'T BE A QUEEN!!!!!!LINUSIt's true.LUCYThere must be a loophole. This kind of thing always has aloophole. Nobody should be kept from being a queen if shewants to be one. It's undemocratic.SHERMYGood grief!(Shermy&PigPenexit)LUCYIt's usually just a matter of knowing the right people. I’ll send afew well placed letters, I’ll be a queen in no time.LINUSI’m going back to watching television.LUCYIf I can't be a queen, then I'll be very rich. I'll work and workuntil I'm very rich and then I will buy myself a Queendom.I'll kick out the old queen and take over the whole operationmyself. I will be Head Queen.

YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN nd then all the people. when I go out in my coach, all thepeople will shout at me.(SitsdownnexttoLinus.)LINUSWhat’s the matter Lucy?LUCYHuh?LINUSWhat happened to your Queendom?LUCYOh that, I’ve given it up. I’ve decided to devote my life tocultivating my natural beauty. Now Switch channels!LINUSAre you kidding? I'm not one of your royal subjects. What makes you think you can just take over?LUCYThese five fingers. Individually they are nothing, but when I curlthem together into a single unit, they become a fighting force tooterrible to behold.LINUSYes, your majesty. Why can't you guys get organized like that?!?!SECTION 9: Charlie & Sally BrownSALLYA "C". a "C". I got a "C" on my coat hanger sculpture. How could anyone get a "C" in coat hanger sculpture?

YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (2015)19SALLY (continued)May I ask a question? Was I being judged on the piece of sculpture itself? If so, is it not true that time alone can judge a work of art?Or was I being judged on my talent? If so, is it right that I bejudged on a part of life over which I have no control? If I was judged on my effort then I was judged unfairly for I triedas hard as I could. Was I being judged on what I have learned about this project? Ifso, were then not you, my teacher, also being judged on yourability to transmit your knowledge to me? Are you willing to sharemy "C"?Perhaps I was being judged on the quality of the coat hangeritself, out of which my creation was made. Now is that not alsounfair? Am I to be judged by the quality of the coat hangers thatare used by our dry cleaning establishment to return ourgarments. Is this not the responsibility of my parents?Should they not share my "C"?TEACHER'S VOICEWA WA WA WA WA WA WA WA WA WA WASALLYThank you Miss Othmar. The squeaky wheel gets the ---------------------SONG – THE KITECHARLIE BROWNLITTLE MORE SPEED, LITTLE MORE ROPE,LITTLE MORE WIND, LITTLE MORE HOPE,GOTTA GET THIS STUPID KITE TO FLY.GOTTA MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T SNAG,DOESN'T DROOP, DOESN'T DRAG,GOTTA WATCH OUT FOR EVERY LITTLE.
