This isdesigned to develop students’ appreciation of art including observation, articulation, andcritical thinking skills through visual arts. Also, this course is designed to fulfill GeneralEducation C1 requirements related in following two pathways in the basic study ofvisual arts, which is to provide student opportunities to develop understanding of humancreativity, arts, values, and reasoning. PPT lectures, related readings in the textbook(and its website), films, museum visits, guest speakers and art-making activities willfocus upon visual thinking strategy as a communicative tool.COURSE POLICIESCourse Objectives:To find your own answers for the questions, “what is art?” and “what is art for?” basedon the following: Critical understanding of visual arts in contemporary society.Examining the elements, principles, and the universal language of art.Examining materials and processes used by artists to critically examine works of art.

Attendance, preparedness and punctuality areconsidered as a part of your grade.Regardless of the result of exams, if you missed more than 3 times, your grade willautomatically be dropped (e.g. A to B, B to C ) and “F” for more than 5 time.Chapter quiz and writing activity will be often randomly required in class. Theseactivities earn a maximum of 5-10 points each and there is no make-up regardlessof the reason for your absence.If you expect to miss a class period due to special conditions (e.g. religious holy days,participation of university events, and so on), let the instructor know within the first twoweeks of class for the alternate arrangements for exams and assignments.* It is the student’s responsibility to obtain information and/or notes from the instructorand/or other students if a class is missed.Class Behavior:Any class behavior that distracts or undermines an atmosphere conductive to learning e.g. chatting, eating, reading other than textbook, sleeping, talking or texting on yourcellphone, and leaving class early or arriving late - will not be tolerated.
