Our SuperintendentThomas S. Tucker, Ph.D. has been in the world of public education for 30 years. Dr. Tucker came toDouglas County School District in 2018 from Cincinnati, Ohio, where he served as Superintendent ofPrinceton City Schools. Over his career Dr. Tucker has held the positions of classroom teacher, assistantprincipal, principal, director of secondary curriculum and superintendent. He has been twice namedNational Superintendent of the Year (American Association of School Administrators in 2016, andNational Alliance of Black School Educators in 2013). Dr. Tucker was born and raised in Arkansas andwas the youngest of 11 children. DCSD Board Policies and ProceduresIn 2019, the Douglas County School District Board of Education began a comprehensive review of all of its policies. Boardpolicies have historically been updated on an as-needed basis. This is the first time a systematic approach will be used to ensurethat policies match current district practices and are aligned with statutory requirements. The process will range from reviewingpolicies that haven’t been updated in as long as 25 years, to creating and approving new policies as required by Colorado StateStatute. All Board policies are available on our website at https://www.dcsdk12.org/boardpolicies.Board CommitteesDistrict AccountabilityCommitteeThe District Accountability Committee(DAC) helps to collect feedback fromSchool Accountability Committeesand then advises the DCSD Board ofEducation on district spending priorities, school improvementplans, parent engagement plans, and other priorities as directedby the Board of Education.Fiscal OversightCommitteeDCSD’sFiscalOversightCommittee (FOC) assists the Boardof Education in fulfilling its fiscaloversight responsibilities. The FOC’sresponsibilities include information gathering, fact-finding, andmaking recommendations in the areas of: Budget (Operating andCapital); Accounting, Audit, and Financial Reporting (Internal andExternal); Banking (Commercial and Investment); and other fiscalmatters as assigned by the Board.Long-Range PlanningCommitteeDCSD’s Long Range PlanningCommittee (LRPC) studies schooldistrict sites, boundaries and capacityneeds. This citizen-based group keepsclose track of new housing developments and student enrollmenttrends in order to provide the Douglas County School DistrictBoard of Education with feedback regarding school district facilityand capacity needs. The LRPC also publishes the annual MasterCapital Plan.8 Douglas County School DistrictMill Bond Ad-HocOversight CommitteeDCSD’s Mill Bond Ad-Hoc OversightCommittee stays familiar with the 2018Mill Levy Override (MLO) and Bondprogram and project list, monitors theprogress of the improvements and programs being implemented,and ensures MLO/Bond expenditures are in alignment with ballotlanguage approved by voters.Student Advisory GroupThe Student Advisory Group (SAG)serves as a focus group of high schoolstudents who provide input to the DCSDBoard and staff about priorities for theireducation.

SCHOOL REGISTRATION AND INFORMATIONNew FamiliesFamilies new to Douglas County, or families with children entering school for the first time, welcome to our school district! Schoolregistration can be done at your assigned neighborhood school. If you’re not sure which school your child should attend, you may enteryour home address into the School Boundary Map located on our website (find the link on the Parent Resource Center page of ourwebsite at www.dcsdk12.org/prc). If you are unable to find your school on that map, please call us at 720-433-0095.Be sure to bring the following, required documents when registering your child for school: Birth Certificate (State certified preferred) Immunization Records (Colorado Law) P roof of Residence (Warranty Deed, Deed of Trust, Property Tax Notice, Lease Agreement, County Assessor Page or NotarizedProof of Residency letter from the person you are living with (if your name doesn’t appear on the proof of residency) alongwith a copy of their proof of residency. Transcript, Last Report Card or Withdrawal Form (whichever has the most current grade information).Returning Families - Express Check-InA few weeks prior to the start of the school year, returning families will receive an email from their school with instructions on how toconduct Express Check-In. Instead of manually entering information during registration, parents with returning students can save timewith Express Check-In by updating household information, signing-off on district forms, updating health conditions and selecting schoolfees. Families can access Express Check-In by logging into the InspiredED parent portal (https://engaged.dcsdk12.org) using their InfiniteCampus (IC) Parent Portal login and password. Once logged in, you will be presented with information for each of your students. STUDENT FEESOpen EnrollmentDCSD embraces parent and student choice by offering a diverse range of pathways tolearning, including neighborhood schools, charter, magnet, online schools, and homeeducation options. Families who wish to open enroll in a school other than their assignedneighborhood school are welcome to do so, as long as their desired school has spaceavailable. Families may begin this process via DCSD’s Open Enrollment process. Find moreinformation on the Parent Resource Center page of our website at www.dcsdk12.org/prc.PreschoolDCSD offers half-day preschool programs for children ages 3-5. Registration applicationsare accepted year round. Students who are age 3 on or before the first day of preschool(August 14, 2019) are eligible to register during the summer and begin school at the startof the school year. Students who turn 3 after September 1st are eligible to register threeweeks before they turn 3 and begin school on their 3rd birthday. Students who are 5years of age on or before October 1st are eligible for kindergarten and are not eligible forpreschool that school year. We welcome students of all skill levels, including those thathave special education needs. Through an inclusive preschool setting, the learning needsof all children are met in the most respectful and positive way. Tuition for DCSD preschoolprograms is as follows:Two days per week (M/W or T/Th), AM or PM session: 170 per monthFour days per week (M-Th), AM or PM session: 340 per monthFor more information, and to get started with preschool registration, visit the ParentResource Center on our website at www.dcsdk12.org/prc.KindergartenFree full-day kindergarten will be offered in DCSD beginning in the 2019-2020 schoolyear. A copy of their Proof of Residency must alsobe given at enrollment). The deadline for Kindergarten enrollment is June 1 prior to thestart of the school year. More information is available in our Parent Resource Center atwww.dcsdk12.org/prc.10 Douglas County School DistrictDouglasCountySchoolDistrictsupplies its students with textbooks andinstructional materials necessary forsuccessful completion of courses of studyas part of our school district’s instructionalprogram.Students participating in enrichmentactivities which are not required maybe assessed charges necessary to coverexpenses such as admission fees, foodcosts, and transportation costs. Studentsmay also be required to pay the costs ofmaterials for projects in specified classes.Waiver of FeesStudentswhomeeteligibilityrequirements set by federal poverty incomeguidelines will have their fees waived.These guidelines include those studentson free and reduced-price meals (includinghomeless and foster students). In orderto have fees waived, families will need tocomplete an application.
