Page 5www.bradleybaptist.orgAnd now a word from our director .Last month Ishared a briefreferenceabout a revivalat IndianaAvenueBaptist Churchin LaFollette,TN. Therevival services concluded onNovember 30 after a 40consecutive-day run of God’spresence being poured out on thisprecious church. Since the nightlyservices have closed, God has nowbeen bringing a great harvest ofpeople being saved. It’s like Godwaited to bring in the harvest afterthe people of God got their heartsand minds clean with Him.The Bible is preeminently a bookabout hope. It affirms thatalmighty God is at work withinhistory to bring forth a future bywhich all things will be made new.In fact, Christ summons us tobecome co-laborers with Him inbirthing this new order in our lives, our communities, and in the largerworld. Here’s how Scripture describes thehope of the gospel: “For the hopewhich is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in theword of the truth of the gospel;Which is come unto you, as it is inall the world; and bringeth forthfruit, as it doth also in you, sincethe day ye heard of it, and knew thegrace of God in truth” Col. 1:5-6(KJV).The hope of the gospel has beenshown in the early beginnings ofGod birthing a new order in thelives of those attending the 40 dayrevival.Being so close to Pastor MarkPartin, and knowing his churchover the past 14 years, has causedme to personally evaluate how weapproach revival services, and whatwe tend to expect or not expect. Ihave learned the truth that revival issomething that comes from outsideour resources, our ingenuity, andour control. It is something Godmust do for us, something that Godbrings to us out of grace. Revivalis an extraordinary work of theSpirit that invades the church toreenergize us with God’s eternalpurposes in Christ Jesus. For 40 days, nothing else matteredto the people of Indiana AvenueBaptist Church. What happenedwith these people was not anemotional touch; it was a completetakeover.Revivalist G. Campbell Morgan, anassociate of D. L. Moody, said,"We cannot organize revival, butwe can set our sails to catch thewind from heaven . . . ."Sailboats are powerless. In and ofthemselves, they can only claim thetitle of organized driftwood. Theyhave no engine, no motor, and nooarsmen. Such a boat is useless initself.against the rocks ofdiscouragement. Sailboats mustyield themselves to the power ofthe wind. The Holy Spirit is the "wind" ofrevival. Peter and John sensed thatwind was blowing in the templecourts of Jerusalem, so they tookaction. They raised the sails, depending on God to provide thebreeze. We, too, need to raise oursails to catch the heavenly windsthat will renew, refresh, andawaken the church of our day.I am thirsty to see somethingsimilar happen in Bradley County. Are you?Merry ChristmasandHappy New Yearfrom the BBA Staff:Phil, Randy, Denise, Dimple and JulieBut now raise the sail.Suddenly a wake appears behindthe vessel, and it picks up speed. The stronger the wind, the fasterthe sailboat can move. The sailboatis completely dependent upon thewind for its progress.Notice that a sailboat is designed toharness the wind. It would befoolish for such a craft to claimindependence, to seek passageacross the waters on its own.Inevitably it would end up driftingin the doldrums of defeat or dashedNow Showing at PremierThe Nativity Story:Anintimate story of two ordinarypeople carrying out an absolutelyextraordinary mission.
