Organisational CV31 July 2017BACKGROUNDNACOSA is a network of over 1,500 civil society organisations working together to turn the tide on HIV, AIDSand TB in South Africa. NACOSA promotes dialogue, builds capacity with accredited training, mentoring andtechnical assistance and channels resources to support service delivery on the ground, particularly amongkey populations and women and girls.As a principal recipient of the Global Fund and in partnership with USAID and PEPFAR and the Departmentsof Health and Social Development, NACOSA works at all levels – from international agencies and nationalgovernment, right though to sub-district services and small, community groups.Sexual and intimate partner violence is a major driver of South Africa’s HIV epidemic. Addressing genderbased violence is therefore a priority, as is the prevention of violence against women. NACOSA’s GenderBased Violence Programme, funded by the Global Fund, acknowledges the importance of both preventionand response, as well as the strategic and geographic intersections between the national Gender BasedViolence, Young Women and Girls and Sex Work Programmes.The Programme includes: Norm-shifting prevention interventions with young people between 18 and 24 through SteppingStones and Creating Futures workshops.Supporting access to domestic violence shelters providing psychological support, HIV education andtesting services as well as life-skills, education and economic empowerment.Sensitizing South African Police Service officials to work effectively and compassionately with victimsof gender based violence.Psychological support, HIV testing services, post-exposure prophylaxis adherence and other practicalsupport for victims of intimate partner and sexual violence at Thuthuzela Care Centres.Support for the Stop Gender Violence Campaign to raise awareness and lobby for a strategic,integrated and funded response to gender based violence in South Africa.NACOSA GBV Conference 18 July 2017Page 1 of 5

The Gender Based Violence (GBV) conference will bring together partners working in the GBV Sector;Government Department stakeholders; representatives from donors in the Development Sector, SANAC andthe Global Fund.The conference will focus on: The State’s Response in dealing with GBVExploring the link between GBV & HIVEvidence-based research and programmes that highlight the vulnerability of the youth with regard toGBV & HIVThe proposed date of the GBV Conference is 3 – 5 October 2017 and we expect to host 150 delegates.The conference is expected to bring stakeholders working in the sector together to share best practices andto showcase the work currently done in the sector. We would like to use the resolutions from thisconference to lobby government to make adequate provision for the GBV Sector to provide adequateservices to victims of gender based violence.SCOPE OF WORKNACOSA seeks the services of a suitably qualified Service Provider to assist with Events Management of theGBV Conference to be held on 3 – 5 October 2017 in Gauteng.
