AIR-COOLED : 1/4 - 30 TONSWATER-COOLED : 2 - 40 TONSAdvantage Maximum air-cooled and water-cooled chillers are designed forprocesses requiring liquid temperatures from 20 F to 80 F.Air-Cooled and Water-Cooled units can be installed and operated easilyneeding only a source of electrical power, coolant fluid and a process loadto be cooled and controlled. Water-cooled units require a secondarycondensing water source. All Maximum Series portable liquid chillers aredelivered fully charged, tested and ready to run right out of the box.Temperature control is achieved by using a “tailor made” microprocessorcontrol instrument designed and manufactured exclusively for theAdvantage chiller. The control instrument maintains precise temperaturecontrol while protecting the system components. All gauges and controlinstrument information is conveniently located permitting instant diagnosisof performance.AIR-COOLEDWATER-COOLEDAir-Cooled chillers utilizeplant ambient air to extractheat from the refrigerationcircuit. HOW IT WORKSThe Copeland Scroll Digital TM compressor controlled byAdvantage’s M1D advanced microprocessor control instrumentuses a simple and effective method to modulate chiller capacityfrom 20 - 100 %, giving unparalleled energy efficient performance inthe modulation field.Copeland Scroll Digital TM TechnologySolenoid Valve ClosedSolenoid Valve OpenThe scroll compressor uses a simple concept first patented in1905 and has been deployed in industrial process chillers and airconditioning systems for many years. Scroll compressors providea very smooth compression process and have fewer moving partscompared with traditional reciprocating compressors.The Copeland Scroll Digital TM compressor improves on the basicscroll design by having axial and radial compliance, which allowsthe fixed scroll to move in both the axial and radial directionsby very small amounts. This ensures that the fixed and orbitingscrolls are always loaded together with the optimal force, therebymaximizing efficiency.Compliance helps to protect the compressor from damage bydebris or liquid. A compressor is designed to only compress gas.Having debris and/or liquid in the compression cycle will damagethe compressor. Compliance (the ability of the scrolls to separateaxially and radially) allows unexpected debris or liquid to be safelydischarged.The Copeland Scroll Digital TM compressor uses axial complianceas its basic principle, but takes it further by controlling theseparation of the scrolls.The Advantage M1D microprocessor control instrument controlsthe axial separation of the scrolls by using a solenoid valve and abypass connection between the discharge chamber and the intakegas. The scrolls are designed so that the upper scroll can separatefrom the bottom scroll by 1 mm vertically.The Copeland Scroll Digital TM operates in two stages - the loadedstate, when the solenoid valve is normally closed and unloadedScroll engagedfull compressionScroll separatedno compressionstate, when the solenoid valve is open. During the loaded state, thecompressor operates like a standard Scroll and delivers full capacityand mass flow. During the unloaded state, there is no capacity andno mass flow through the compressor.By controlling the amount of time that the compressor is in theloaded and unloaded state, the Advantage M1D control instrumentcan effectively and efficiently modulate the chiller capacity from 20to 100% while maintaining temperature stability.Since there is no compression when the compressor is in the‘unloaded state’ far less energy is consumed.
