THE EVANGEL – SEPTEMBER 2015FROM THE PASTORDear friends,I trust and pray that each of you has had a Christ filled summer. Atime of soaking up the sun(SON), and sharing God’s love with all thewarm and not so warm people around you. I find myself this morning, celebrating the brisk weather and day three of the back-to-schoolroutine. I think it’s important to note that I am so thankful for our localschool systems and the amazing job they do teaching and raising ourchildren. Now let’s be honest our school system is undoubtedly thestaff and volunteers that run the building and wrangle our kids. Besure and tell them how much you appreciate the heroes in your children’s lives. One of my favorite things that I’ve learned while being a foster parent is theimportance of scaling. We can use this in lots of places in our lives, but today Iwould like to use it to talk about life’s priorities. I was always raised that mypriority should be God, family, country, and others. I am sure for some of usthose are realistically in a little different order. But when I line up Biblical values Ithink it changes a little bit. It seems if I love the Lord my God with all my heart, mind, and soul, and love my neighbor as my-self, I think God would ask for it tobe ordered a little different: God, family and others the same, and country next. Now I know this is a sensitive subject so please take this with a grain of salt So I ask myself to scale the important things in my life. What number do I placeon things on a scale from 1-10. Church 6; Work 6; School 6; Sports 3; FireDepartment 6; Care of my wife 5; Care of my children 5; Self-improvement 4;Quiet time with God 4; Creature comforts 5; Care for my neighbors 5. This is justan honest assessment of where I think I am on this scale. Each of these thingscould have a large list of sub-categories. When I do this from time to time it helpsremind me to work a little harder on the areas that I feel God wants higher on thelist. In our jobs we have a performance review, and in each aspect of our lives weshould also review. I wonder when is the last time you honestly asked yourspouse or best friend how they would rate you in these categories?Living intentionally is a Christian discipline that helps us order our lives. GiveGod the priority He deserves and continue to be certain we keep our priorities inorder! Don’t be afraid to lend time to the discipline of scaling your priorities. It willhelp you see the pitfalls you are heading for and change course before thetragedy. With Respect and Love;Your Pastor in Christ,Pastor Jason Collier

Thestudents will do half the work at each sale and reap half the profits. Your activeshopping and support is greatly appreciated! Keep an eye out online and inperson for updates about the next sale! You may notice some new and interesting things on the calendar and otherplaces, regarding our student ministry and youth group. The exciting thing is thatboth The United Church of Crawfordsville and Ainsworth Community Churchhave decided to invest in students and families in their communities. What doesthat mean? What will happen now? Well, for starters, students will have theprivilege of participating in two activities each week. That means twice the fun, twice the fellowship, and twice the faith building activities!!Starting Wednesday, September 16, from 2 until 4 PM(ish), students will belounging together in the North Church Youth Room (old music room). Thisactivity is called, “The Well”, and is so named because it is designed to imitatethe setting where Jesus refreshed the Samaritan woman. All students will bewelcome here. This activity will be extremely loose and relationship based. Wewant you to come, be fed, be cared for, and feel good about being in the church.CIA Youth Group will be the continuation of our Sunday Youth Group. This iswhere we will meet, eat, pray, play, learn, grow, go, serve and swerve. Yes, Ireally said that. But seriously, this is where we are going to do more of ourSpiritual Walking. We want all students to have that all important faith formationand here’s where it will happen. CIA will meet starting September 20 from 4:306PM in the Youth Room at the United Church of Crawfordsville. All students arewelcome and encouraged to attend!THE YOUTH GROUP STAYS INTACT Please make a mental note that thisyouth group will not divide up into two separate groups. Christ Is Alive YouthGroup will remain as one unit. This may require some growth and challenges, butwe will figure it out together, as we always do!Parent volunteers are needed to support these events. If you are available onWednesdays from 2-4 PM, Sundays from 4:30-6 PM or are willing to chaperoneany of our fun events, fundraisers, or service projects (which may be at differenttimes), the please call AmySara at 319-591-0745, so she can get you connected.
