INITIAL SET UPFunctionsFRESH IS BESTTo get the most out of your Grind Control coffee brewer we recommend using qualityfreshly roasted whole bean coffee & grind rightbefore you brew. Coffee is at its peak flavorpotential 5-20 days after roasting. Always buycoffee with a “Roasted On” date printed onthe bag and avoid buying coffee with a “BestBefore” or “Use By” date, as you never knowwhen it was roasted. Coffee loses flavor and itsaromatics once it’s ground, so grinding rightbefore you brew is the key to great tastingcoffee with superior flavor and aroma.PRODUCT OVERVIEWYour Grind Control coffee brewer is the firstdrip coffee maker with an adjustable built-ingrinder and calibration mode. The adjustable grinder features machinedstainless steel burrs that allow you to adjustthe coarseness or fineness to optimize flavorbalance. The calibration mode allows you adjust theamount of coffee delivered on any strength/cup size setting to suit coffee of varying grindsize, origins, age and degree of roast, so youcan achieve the maximum flavor potential fromany coffee you choose. The Grind Control also allows you to brew asingle cup or travel mug in “cup” mode or from2 to 12 cups in “carafe” mode.BEFORE FIRST USEUnpack all parts and accessories beforeremoving and safely discarding all packagingmaterial and promotional labels. Ensure thepower cord is unplugged from the power outlet.Wipe the exterior stainless steel housing witha soft, damp cloth. Wash the bean hopper andlid, coffee basket, gold tone filter and carafe inwarm, soapy water and a soft cloth. Do not useabrasive cleansers, pads or cloths which canscratch the surface. Rinse and dry thoroughly.81. Install the Bean HopperPosition the hopper onto the machine. Turn thelocking knob clockwise in the direction of theLOCK arrow until it clicks. Fill the hopper withfresh beans. We recommend always keeping the hopper full(0.5lb maximum) to ensure there are sufficientbeans. However, never over-pack the hopperas this may result in the grinder jamming.Replace the hopper lid.yNOTEFor easy removal, transfer and storage ofbeans, the hopper can be removed by turningthe locking knob counter-clockwise in thedirection of the UNLOCK arrow. If you haveremoved the hopper, ensure it is securelyreassembled back onto the machine. The safetyinterlock system will prevent operation if thehopper is incorrectly assembled. The LCDscreen will flash ‘LOCK BEAN HOPPER’ untilthe issue is resolved.2. Plugging in the Power CordUnwind the power cord completely and insertthe power plug into a grounded 110-120Vpower outlet. The LCD screen will illuminate.NOTEThe coffee machine will enter POWER SAVEmode after remaining idle for 10 minutes.Press any button to exit POWER SAVE modeand re-start the machine.3. Install the Coffee BasketFor best results, we recommend pre-heatingthe coffee basket by running it under hot tapwater. Line the coffee basket with either theprovided gold tone filter or a paper filter.Never use both at the same time.

a Provided gold tone filter. When usingthe gold tone filter, be sure that thehandle is positioned towards the hingearea of the coffee basket. Otherwise thehandle may interfere with the flow ofground coffee into the gold tone filter.HANDLE TOWARDSCOFFEE BASKET HINGEENSURE CHUTEAREA ISCOMPLETELY DRYNOTEThe gold tone filter will allow some fine coffeegrounds to fall into the coffee. This will appearas sediment in the cup or carafe. This is normal.Only use the gold tone filter provided as othersmay cause the machine to overflow.b) Paper filter Use an 8-12 cup, flat basebasket style paper filter with 3¼"/8.25cmbase. CALIBRATE FUNCTIONAdvance FeaturesYour Grind Control coffee brewer is equippedwith some advanced features that usuallyonly need to be used occasionally. These areoutlined below:ADJUSTING THE GRINDERYour Grind Control coffee brewer is fittedwith Adjustable Stainless Steel burrs. Theseflat burrs deliver a coffee particle of optimumsize for Drip Filter brewing. You may need toadjust the grind size to compensate for coffeeof different origins, quality, age and degree ofroast. Grind setting 3 should cover most coffeesyou purchase but there are circumstances thatrequire the grind size to be adjusted. We recommend you visually assess the grindsize first. This can only be done by grindingsome coffee and assessing the size. For smallercup volumes (10oz) a finer grind will work best(setting 2-3) for larger cup volumes (12 cupcarafe) a medium-coarse grind will work best(setting 3-5), but these are heavily dependenton many factors. We suggest only making one adjustment at atime & determine its affects by brewing andtasting. To adjust, turn the Grind Adjustment diallocated through the bean hopper lid, in thedirection of the arrow to effect a coarser orfiner grind. The LCD will display your grindsetting when you turn the dial. Turn thedial slowly until the Grind Size number isdisplayed.NOTEA grind size of between 2 and 4 should besuitable for most coffee origins & brew sizes. Ifusing this range and your coffee is not tastingas expected, check the freshness of your beans. Also ensure the coffee basket and carafe areclean.16This function is used to adjust the grinderoutput times to compensate for coffee beans ofdifferent origins, age and degree of roast andgrind size. To use this function you will requirea set of precision scales with a resolution of1 gram. When using this function the machinewill require you to weigh the amount of outputfrom the grinder after it runs for 10 secs.We recommend you set the grind size yourequire first. This can only be done by grindingsome coffee and visually assessing to the size. For smaller cup volumes (10 oz), a finer grind(2-3) works best; for larger cup volumes (12 cupcarafe), a medium coarse grind (3-5) works best.1. Set the Grind Size.2. Ensure there is enough beans in the hopper.3. Ensure you have the Gold Tone filteror paper filter in the coffee basket.4. Ensure the coffee basket is fitted to theSwing Out door & the door is closed.5. Press the MENU EXIT button.6. Rotate the STRENGTH Dial to Calibrate.7. Press the STRENGTH Dial to startthe grinder.8. When the grinder has stopped, open the Swing Out door.9. Weigh the ground coffee.10. Rotate the STRENGTH Dial to matchthe weighed coffee amount.11. Press the STRENGTH Dial to accept. The grinder output is now re-calibrated tomatch your coffee beans origin, age and degreeof

coffee brewer we recommend using quality freshly roasted whole bean coffee & grind right before you brew. Coffee is at its peak flavor potential 5-20 days after roasting.
