Setting Up YourCoffeemakerTHE QUESTFOR THE PERFECTCUP OF COFFEE1. Unwrap cord and plug the coffeemaker into agrounded outlet. Make sure to remove all stickersand packing materials from the unit.Element 1: Water2. Place a large cup or mug (10 oz. minimum) on thedrip tray.Coffee is 98% water. The quality of that wateris as important as the quality of your coffee. Ifwater doesn’t taste good from the tap, it won’ttaste good in your coffee. Cuisinart includes acharcoal water filter to remove chlorine, badtastes and odors, for the purest coffee flavor, every time you brew.3. Remove lid from water reservoir, then lift reservoirstraight up and away from the coffeemaker. Washthe reservoir with warm soapy water, and rinse.4. Fill reservoir with water to the 12-cup line andreturn with lid to unit (see figure 1).Water Reservoir LidElement 2: CoffeeWater ReservoirWhile coffee is 98% water, all of the flavorcomes from the beans. To achieve the samegreat taste you enjoy at a coffee bar, you needto use the same quality of coffee. If you chooseto grind your own beans, buy them fresh andwhole. Grind only about a two-week supply at atime, because once the bean is broken, its flavordegrades quickly.Element 3: GrindThe grind is critical for proper flavor extraction. If the grind is too fine, over-extraction and bitterness will result. Too fine a grind may alsoclog the filter. If grind is too coarse, the waterwill pass through too quickly and the maximumflavor will not be extracted. When grinding yourown beans, we recommend a medium grind.figure 1Charcoal WaterFilterYour coffeemaker comes with a charcoal water filterthat eliminates chlorine, bad tastes and odors from tapwater.Inserting the Water FilterElement 4: Proportion1.
