Creo Dimensioning TutorialBy: Matthew JourdenBrighton High SchoolBrighton, MIStep 1: Layout ViewsAlready done for Engineering Design Technology 1DWG 1-4 Views (Front, Top, Right Side) Scale is 1.000 1.000 (Full); Isometric Scale does not matteras long as it does not interfere with the Front, Top and Right Side ViewsStep 2: Placing Dimensions1. Open DWG 1 Layout2. Turn Off Datums (D Key). If datums are NOT turned off they will printout3. Go to Annotate TabThe annotate tab will allow a user to dimension parts in various ways. We are onlygoing to use a couple of buttons here.a. Linear Dimension Tool: Places dimensions on the partb. Note Tool: Places text notes on the partc. Show Model Annotations: Auto dimensions, finishes, and centerlinesd. Cleanup Dimensions: Organizes the dimensions by spacing and using snap linesShow Model AnnotationsLinear DimensionToolNote ToolCleanup Dimensions

4. Select Linear Dimension ToolThere are two ways to place dimensionsa. Left Clicking on the line to be measured Middle Mouse Button to placeORb. Holding CTRL Select two parallel lines Middle Mouse Button to place(NOTE: Select two vertical lines gets a horizontal measure and selecting twovertical gets a vertical measure)After selecting the Linear Dimension Tool the Menu Managerwill appear. This allows the user to select various entities orfind known points. We will just keep the option selected forOn Entity for right now.Select edges and place the following dimensions. Try each method. Do not be concerned about whereyou place the dimensions. We will organize the dimensions later. Note place smaller dimensions closerto the part.

5. Changing Arrowhead directionIf you have a dimension that you can only see the arrowheads or the values you will need toflip the arrows on the outside of the extension lines. In this sample this would not have to bedone, but we will experiment with it. (NOTE This dimension DOES NOT need externalarrowheads)a. Select any dimensionb. Right Mouse button on the valuec. Select Flip Arrowheadsd. The arrows should flip on the outside (See Before and After Below)(You may have to dothis on DWG 2-4).e. Flip the arrows back internallyBeforeAfter

6. Cleanup Dimensionsa. View Outlinei. Select all of your dimensions (Except the 1.25 Dimension inside of the cut) byholding the CTRL key and Left Click on the dimensions or draw a window aroundthe dimensions. The dimensions should turn green.ii. Select Cleanup Dimensions Icon in the Annotate Tab. This tool will allow us toevenly space our dimensionsiii. A pop up window will appear.1. Space out dimensionsa. Offset (Distance from edge/view outline) 0.375b. Increment (Distance from another layer of dimension 0.252. Offset Referencea. View Outline: Sets dimensions based on the green outline of theviewb. Baseline: Allows the user to select an edge to snap off of.Offset Reference: Allowsthe user to use the ViewOutline (Green Box) orBaseline (Selected Edge) tosnap off of. NOTE: Baselineis used for dimensionsinside the part. See MrJourden for Baselineinstructions if neededSpace of Dimensionsiv. Select Apply. Dashed Lines will Appear under the dimensions.These are snap lines. The user can drag a dimension overthese lines and the dimension will snap to it. The usermay also create their own snap lines, this will be discussedlater.v. Select Close

v. Arrow head represents the direction the snap line will be sent parallel to theedge. Be sure the Arrow is pointing towards the cut. If it does not click the FlipArrow icon next to the Baseline Option in the Cleanup Dimensions SettingsWindowSelect Flip Arrow Ifthe arrow is going inthe wrong directionvi. Click Apply Close7. Final Drawing should look as follows

8. Fill out the Title Blocka. Use the text tool in the Annotate Tab to fill in the following, Be sure to CHANGE TEXTHEIGHT to 0.1.i. DATE: TODAYS DATEii. SCALE: FULL (NOTE for DWG 1-4 the Scale is FULL or 1.000 1.000)iii. DWG: UBLOCKiv. SHEET: 1 OF 1 (NOTE all of Intro CADD Drawings will be 1 OF 1; may change onthe format to make it permanent)v. Align Text to the appropriate boxes9. Printa. Autoscale first by pressing the A Keyb. File Print PrintNOTE: Printer knows the paper sizec. Click OKand orientation. These menus allowd. Click Ok (Second Time)you to change and alter the paperselection of needed.NOTE: If the Print Preview Window Appears find the Print Button on the Print Tab at the Top of thescreen and press print this will load the printer selection window.The Default Printer should be B32 HP 5200 (unless otherwise instructed) Click Print10. Save the Drawing11. Repeat Steps of DWG 2-4.NOTE all dimensions are placed on the profile given on the worksheet, except for theextrude distance. Place the extrude distance on one of the other views other than the profileview. Dimension exactly as shown on the worksheet.
