UGA MyIDand UGAIDYour UGA MyID is the username that will berequired to access a number of online resources atthe University and other functions. The MyID is thefirst part of your UGAMail address (ex: joeuser@uga.edu).Passwords for MyIDs must be changed every sixmonths. Passwords must be a minimum of eightcharacters long with at least one special character(such as, !@#). Visit myid.uga.edu to change yourpassword.Your UGAidentification number — which may beginwith 810 or 811 — is used instead of yourSocial Security number to access yourpersonal data. Your UGAID numberappears on the back of your UGACard.University of Georgia 5

You’ll need to establish your MyID account to get UGAMail — anotherimportant step.2. Connect your laptop to UGA’s wireless network:Get connected to UGA’s wireless network called PAWS-Secure. UGA PortalUGA’s portal (my.uga.edu) is a one-stop website that allowsyou to access your email, web-based University services andreceive announcements. UGAMailYour UGAMail is provided through Microsoft and includes access to your University email,calendar and tasks. You can access your UGAMail through the web (ugamail.uga.edu) orby configuring a desktop client to access your account. The University will send officialinformation to your UGAMail account, so be sure to check it regularly.Need technical help with email? Getting connectedin HousingStudent Technology Support (STS) is a division of EITS that helps you getconnected in University Housing. STS can help with Internet and wirelessconnections, registering devices and troubleshooting. Plugging inPAWS-Secure wireless access is available in rooms of allresidence halls, but wired access is also in each dorm room.To connect your computer to the University’s network, youwill need: a computer with a built-in Ethernet port or network card and any installation CDs that came with your computer inthe event of a problem.Do not bring a router, switch or hub. eLearning CommonsUGA’s online learning management system is called e-Learning Commons. You areautomatically enrolled in e-LC classes based on the classes you register for eachsemester. It is used by students and instructors for course assignments, learningmaterials, quizzes, assessments, class communication and other resources.UGA will continue to use Blackboard Vista for its e-LC, but will switch to Desire2Learnin January 2014. e-LC is jointly maintained by EITS and the Center for Teaching andLearning (CTL). OASISOASISis the University’s current student information system used by all UGA students toenroll in classes and update their personal information. The Registrar’s Office maintainsOASIS.Visit oasisweb.uga.edu.Preview . BannerConnectUGA is the name of the new student information system created under the Bannersoftware project. ConnectUGA will transform the University’s technology platform, includingadministrative and student services.In June 2014, all student accounts will be switched to Banner. Once fully implemented,Banner will replace OASIS. DegreeWorksAre you staying on track for graduation? DegreeWorks helps students and their advisorsmonitor progress toward degree completion by keeping up with degree requirements.Access DegreeWorks through the MyUGA portal or GA students can establish their free account to Qualtrics, a web-basedsurvey tool. You can create, implement and evaluate surveys. Print kiosksSend documents from your computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet in the cloud and printat one of the print kiosks on the campus in Athens. Print jobs stay in the cloud for up to 96hours or until you retrieve them at a kiosk. Get color, and black and white prints. You can alsoinsert a USB flash drive directly in a kiosk. Borrow a laptopiPad or KindleGet an iPad, Kindle e-book reader or laptopon loan at the Miller Learning Center (MLC) atthe EITS service desk on the third floor. Thereis no charge to borrow the devices if youfollow the time restrictions.18 Enterprise Information Technology Services

Digital Media LabCreate and edit your courserelated digital media projectsat the MLC’s digital medialab. SkyDriveSkyDrive is an online file-sharing and storage servicethat gives you up to 25 GB of file storage. You can alsocreate Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNotedocuments on the web with SkyDrive. Share and editdocuments with friends or classmates.Create groups to share files and use cloud-basedstorage to sync your files. SkyDrive is part of yourMicrosoft account.SendFilesSendFilesallows you to send encrypted email with sensitive dataor large files to other UGA users or people not associated with theUniversity. Computer Labson CampusIf you need access to a computer, EITS has several computer labs available on campus.Printing is available at computer labs. The University System of Georgiaoffers affordable, brand name software and services for work and personalcomputers for students, faculty and staff. Deals include those fromMicrosoft and Adobe.Visit www.srs.usg.edu.UGAAlertThe University’s emergency notification system is UGAAlert, whichquickly sends information via phone calls, text messages or emailswhen there is a severe threat to public safety and health of thecampus. Don t let yourpassword be crackedCreating a strong password is a key step to protecting yourdigital data. Your UGA MyID password must be at least eightcharacters and contain one or more special characters. Plus, youmust establish your secret questions to verify your identity whenchanging your password.Some tips on creating strong answers for your secret questions are:1. Don’t include information that can be found about you online, such asyour current or previous street addresses, birthday or mother’s maidenname;2. Stick with answers that are stable and won’t change (such as the name offirst boyfriend or girlfriend);3. Memorable (so you won’t forget it).To keep up with your passwords securely, use a password manager, likeRoboForm Everywhere or LastPass.University of Georgia 23

Illegal downloadswill cost youBesides violating University policy, if you illegally download or distribute copyrightedmaterials on the UGA network, you could face civil or criminal charges. UGA respondsto copyright holder notifications in accordance with the Digital Millennium CopyrightAct (DCMA).
