HISTORICAL FIGURES OF #BLACKLIVESMATTER Harriet Tubman Harriet Tubman escaped slavery to become a leading abolitionist. She led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom along the route ofthe underground railroad. After the civil war ended, Tubman dedicated her life to helping impoverished former slaves and the elderly. Inhonor of her life and by popular demand, in 2016, the U.S. Treasury department announced that Tubman will replace AndrewJackson on the center of a new 20 BMAN DR. Martin Luther King Dr. Martin Luther King traveled over six million miles and spoke over twenty-five hundred times, appearing wherever there was injustice,protest, and action; and meanwhile he wrote five books as well as numerous articles. In these years, he led a massive protest inBirmingham, Alabama, that caught the attention of the entire world, providing what he called a coalition of /1964/KING/BIOGRAPHICAL/ Sojourner Truth A former slave, sojourner truth became an outspoken advocate for abolition, temperance, and civil and women’s rights in the nineteenthcentury.
