Development of arts benefits students in all areas of education. Art provides an opportunity for children to develop the use of their senses directly andencourages the student to further develop what they alreadyknow as a source of knowledge and creativity. It is importantfor the student to make a connection between the verbal andvisual; logic and emotions; imagination and reality. Art offersthe student an opportunity to express feelings and emotionsin their drawings and with color. The fine art program promotes self-esteem and self-awareness as it enhances personalfulfillment. Children have a wonderful imagination that, if encouraged, will be needed though out their life as they facechallenges, choices and creating. The students will focus on new month each week.They will also be able to pick a different clay project eachweek from The Book of Nature Crafts and/or Clay Fun. Oncestudents have completed the calendar project they will beginto work on form drawing and make a seasonal chart using objects familiar with each of the four seasons. The course concludes with students working with wet crayons and wet paper.Arts & Crafts Grade 1This course provides a foundation for childrens’ inherent artistic imagination and creativity by sharing the basics of art andmaking art. A particular emphasis of this course is on creatingworks of art. Each student is an individual with unique ideasand talents. Our goal is to provide each student an opportunity for personal growth for themselves and the world in whichwe live. Students will have opportunities to experience manydifferent forms of arts and to express their imagination whilelearning valuable skills. In the 1st semester, students are introduced to primary colors, the color wheel, shapes such as linesand circles, and concepts such as symmetry. Young artists willalso explore a variety of media such as pastels, watercolors,crayons, tempera, and pencil drawing. Students will work tocreate a watercolor tree, use a printing block, produce weatherpainting(s), and produce a watercolor painting. In the secondsemester, students will be applying what they have learnedto create more detailed works of art.
