IntroductionOn 1st November 2016, we said goodbye to Microsoft Dynamics CRM andDynamics AX and welcomed Microsoft Dynamics 365. This marked a significantchange, and an equally significant opportunity.Microsoft Dynamics 365 is the next generation of intelligent business applicationsthat enable organisations to grow, evolve and transform. What does this change mean for me?If you are a new customer then you will no longer be able to purchase DynamicsCRM or Dynamics AX you will be presented with Dynamics 365 instead.If you’re already an on-premise customer, there are several options. Dynamics 365 is acloud service that also offers dual-use rights, which allows for on-premise deployment.Microsoft offer customers connectors if they want to use a hybrid of on-premise andcloud solutions, and a migration path when they are ready to move to the cloud.Customers who bought Dynamics on-premise products prior to the launch ofDynamics 365 can stay on-premise as long as they continue to pay SoftwareAssurance (SA) or Enhancement Plan (EP). On-premise customers who are current onSA/EP have the option to move to Dynamics 365 utilising new SKUs.Microsoft are standing by the original support timelines for each previous versionof Dynamics CRM, Dynamics AX, Dynamics GP and Dynamics NAV. This means eachproduct will get roughly 10 years of bug fixes and improvements as originally plannedby Microsoft but after this time you are running some risks continuing to operate thesystem. Some earlier versions of Dynamics AX (2009 or earlier) and Dynamics CRM(2011 or earlier) are already out of support.There are 2 versions of Dynamics 365:»» SME Edition: Microsoft launched Dynamics 365 Business Central, basedon Dynamics NAV, it is cloud only, optimised for 10 - 250 employeeswith a maximum of 300 seats. This app combines capability acrossoperations, finance, projects and sales. There are 2 versions of Dynamics 365:Dynamics 365 introduced some new concepts to the licensing model which are important to grasp:UserThe predominate licensing model continues to be “per nameduser”, but we think of the broad user base in two categories:»» Full users: full users are the users who leverage themajority of business Apps functionality. Traditionallywe would have referred to this group as Super Usersor Power Users. In the Dynamics 365 licence model,For example, for CRM there are now 5 individual apps, knownas Sales, Field Service, Customer Service, Project ServiceAutomation, and Marketing. Thetiered pricing applies to Enterprise Edition Plan 1 and Team Members, Enterprise edition. It will also apply to the Dynamics 365Business Central plan when it becomes available in H1CY17.
