Guideline for JSMQA Refresher Training Course, August 2022 (31ST)1. Introduction2.Since July 1st, 2006, Administration governments are recommended thatlifeboats/launching appliances are subject to inspection, maintenance and servicingcarried out by personal limited to manufacturers’ representatives and certified serviceengineers. In addition, for renewing the certificate (maintenance engineer certificate),it is required in accordance with MSC.402(96) (Requirements for maintenance,thorough examination, operational testing, overhaul and repair of Lifeboats andRescue Boats, Launching Appliances, and Release Gears) to participate in atraining course which is appropriate for the renewal.In order to cope with the advice in MSC.402(96), we hold this training course inresponse to the request by 5 lifeboat manufacturers, 1 rescue boat manufacturerand 3 launching appliance manufacturers.The engineers after the renewal of their engineer certificates for their qualificationshall continuously conduct the maintenance and, therefore, they need therecommendation by these relevant manufacturers in order to participate in the trainingcourse.The contents of the training course cover common items of all the manufacturers;therefore, participation by some manufacturers is not possible. Participants must takeall the subjects of the training course.This time, due to the influence of the global COVID-19, we will carry out writtentraining and written examinations as special provisions rather than training sessions inJapan, and we will update our technical certificate by conducting a skill evaluationbased on the records of maintenance and implementation over the past three years.2. In such a case, the application form for “Certificate of Service Engineer” must besubmitted to the Association (please contact the Association for furtherinformation).10.
