Introduction to TMEIC MotorsTMEIC combines the best of Toshiba and MitsubishiElectric’s experience in building motors that goes backover 100 years. TMEIC’s motor offering includesinduction motors from a few hundred horsepower, upto synchronous motors over 100,000 hp, driving a widerange of industrial applications such as pumps, fans, grinding, conveyors, and compressors. In addition to applications directly connected to utilitypower, TMEIC motors can be matched with VariableFrequency Drives for ease of starting and for speedcontrol. The VFD allows motor speeds as high as 12,000rpm. This chart below and pages 4 & 5 illustrate therange of motors available.100Synchronous motors are best suited forvery high power at lower speeds.80Induction motors are best suited forhigh speed.Power (MW)70Considerable over lap exists to allowa choice, but the induction motorusually has the price advantage in theoverlap area.60Synchronous Motors5040Induction Motors3020Expansion of the oil and gas industry has createddemand for large motors to drive gas compressors andoil pumps. These motors are located in the productionareas and on interstate pipelines, and are usuallydesigned with explosion protection. For specialapplications such as driving large compressors andblowers, motor ratings can reach or exceed 100,000 hp.Meeting the demand for large motors for the metalsindustry, TMEIC has produced large synchronous andinduction motors for the operation of steel rolling mills. The power levels for these motors go up to about 10 MW.They are covered in a separate brochure.10002300060009000 12000 15000Rotating Speed (RPM)FeaturesBenefitsHigh Reliability resulting from use of proven designtechnology, manufacturing expertise, wide use ofrobotics, tight quality control, and testingMany years of excellent trouble-free serviceunder difficult working conditionsHigh Efficiency resulting from detailed analysis ofthe electromagnetic field patterns and ventilating airflowsLow electrical losses for high power conversionefficiencyHigh Strength Insulation applied by roboticinsulation winding and oversized epoxy resinvacuum impregnation tanks creates strong supportand insulationWithstand surge and minimizes electrical shortsand winding fatigue failureHigh Mechanical Strength through use of static anddynamic strength analysis of stator frame, rotor, shaftand bearings. TM21-M and TM21-L Series Induction MotorsTMEIC offers a range of medium voltage induction motorsfor larger Industrial applications such as fans, blowers, pumps, mills, compressors and conveyors. These motorsoffer higher efficiency and higher power factor than anyprevious design. The TM21-M and TM21-L have ruggedTotally-Enclosed Air-WaterCooled Type TEWAC/IP55Includes an air-to-water heatexchanger in the air housingabove the motor.fabricated steel frames. Aluminum rotor bars are standardon the TM21-M, and copper rotor bars are standard on theTM21-L. Both series can be customized with different topenclosures for selected types of protection and cooling. The arrows in the illustrations below indicate airflow.Totally-Enclosed Air-AirCooled Type TEAAC/IP55In a corrosive or harmfulenvironment, a totally-enclosedfan-cooled motor can be applied. An external fan directs fresh airthrough the pipes in the airhousing above the motor. Thepipes serve as a heat exchangerin which outside fresh air passingthrough cools the hot air inside.A drain in the air housingprotects the motor fromdamage caused by waterleakage.Open Drip Proof Type ODP/IP22A drip-proof type motor has acooling air intake and hot airexhaust window located at thetop of the hood.Openings are covered by screensand enclosure is constructed toprevent intrusion of water dripsand other foreign materials intothe motor and meets NEMA WP-Irequirements.NEMA Weather-Protected WPII/IP24This motor is designed for outdooroperation. The air housing is inaccordance with NEMA WPII, andfeatures three right-angled turns forair intake, dropping velocity below3 m/sec (600 ft/min.), trapping water, dust, and foreign materials.PowerTM21-MTM21-L50 HZ160 - 2,800 kW(210 - 3,750 hp)60 HZ200 - 3,550 kW(270 - 4,750 hp)450 - 16,500 kW(600 - 22,000hp)450 - 18,500 kW(600 - 25,000hp)Voltage2.3 kV - 11 kV2.3 kV - 13.8 kVSpeedUp to 3,600 rpmUp to 3,600 rpmPolesFrom 2 up to 10From 2 up to 24Aluminum CastingCopper Bar6 RotorFundamental Building Block 21-M and 21-L IC01, IC61 and IC81W cooling per IEC Standardconstruction are available by changing the topmounted air housing.
