In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most MercifulVerse 78.5 - َ س َي ْعلَ ُمون َ ث ُ هم ك هَال Translation – Surely, very soon they will come to know.ExplanationSura an-Naba explains about the Day of Judgment. It is an inevitable event which will occur at anappointed time. There is no need to have a doubt over it by the disbelievers and their arguments inthis context are pointless. The disbelievers are reminded about the mammoth events that are taking place in their lives on dayto day basis. With these in view, there is no basis whatsoever to disbelieve about the Day ofJudgment. Translation – (The people of Hell will) stay in there for a long, long time.ExplanationThere are three verses in Quran about the dwellers of Hell, as follows. It is in Quran - خَا ِلدِي َن فِي َها أَ َبدًا - ِيرا ً سع َ عده لَ ُه ْم َ َ َّللا لَ َع َن الْكَاف ِِري َن َوأ َ [ ِإ هن ه Indeed, Allah's curse is on thedisbelievers and He has prepared for them a Blaze (of Hell) where they will live forever]. (Al-Ahzab - 64)2Return to Contents

It is in Quran - ير ْ َ [ َوالهذِي َن َكف َُروا َو َكذهبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا أُولَ ٰـئِكَ أ But the onesُ ص ِ س الْ َم َ ْ ار خَا ِلدِي َن فِي َها ۖ َوبِئ ِ ص َحابُ النه who disbelieved and denied Our verses, those are the companions of the Fire, abiding therein. And (what a) wretched is that destination.] (At-Taghaabun - 10)It is in Quran - ََلبِثِي َن فِي َها أَ ْحقَابًا - لِلطهاغِي َن َمآَبًا - صادًا َ ْ ( [ ِإ هن َج َهنه َم كَانَتْ مِر Know that) Hell has beenlying in wait, as a home for the transgressors, to stay therein for a long long time. ](An-Naba - 21-23)It is part of our Iman that the dwellers of Hell and Paradise will remain there for ever. There is noconcept of death in Paradise or in Hell. However, some sinners will be punished in Hell forsometime and later, from Prophet Mohammad's ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم mediation, they will be takenout of Hell and transferred to Paradise. Anyone who has an atom's weight of Iman in his heart willbe taken out of Hell and transferred to Paradise. After that the doors of the Paradise and Hell will beclosed and the dwellers in both Hell and Paradise are separated from each other for ever. There are differences of opinion among scholars on the punishment of the dwellers of Hell, asfollows:(i) Some say that when there is no Iman in heart, there is no scope of respite in thepunishment of the Dwellers of Hell. It is eternal, continuous and unending.(ii) In some scholars' opinion, after a long long time of punishment of the dwellers ofHell, Allah's Mercy will overcome His rage and their covenant to their Lord will helpthem and they will be pardoned by the Most Merciful Allah The Fire of theHell will get extinguished and some kind of relief and comfort will be provided tothem in Hell itself, but they will not be transferred to Paradise. It is in Hadith - It is reported on the authority of Abu Huraira ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ thatthe Apostle of Allah ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم said, when Allah completed the creation, hewrote in his book with him upon the throne, 'Verily, My Mercy prevails over myWrath. And (mention) when your Lord took from the childrenof Adam ( )عليه السالم , from their loins, their descendants and made them testify ofthemselves, 'Am I not your Lord?' They said, 'Yes, we have testified.' Lest you wouldsay on the day of Resurrection, 'Indeed, we were unaware of it.' ] (Al-A'raaf - 172)Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) and His Apostle ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم know best.3Return to Contents

Translation – (It will be said) : 'So you taste (the results of your evil actions). We shall give younothing but increase in punishment.'ExplanationTo seek the truth about our Creator, know about Him and follow His commandments is part of thenature of human beings. A person who follows Taghut (Devils) and evil desires, is indeed goingagainst his own nature. If you go against your own nature, surely you will suffers in this world andin Hereafter. It is important that we realize this fact.Who has instilled this nature in us? It is Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ), our Creator who has instilled in us the driveto seek truth. [And(mention)whenyourLordtookfrom the childrenَِِِ َ َ َ َْof Adam ( )عليه السالم , from their loins, their descendants and made them testify ofthemselves, 'Am I not your Lord?' They said, 'Yes, we have testified.' Lest you wouldsay on the day of Resurrection, 'Indeed, we were unaware of it.' ] (Al-A'raaf - 172)Where was the above promise made? It was in Aalam-e-Mithaal. It is obvious from the above versethat it is part of our nature to seek the truth about our Creator and walk on His way. Why it is so? Itis because, it is part of our nature. To assist us in following His path, Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) has sent manyProphets/Apostles who have guided us on His way. [And We certainly sent into everyَ ض فَانظُ ُروا َكي nation an Apostle, (saying), 'Worship Allah and avoid Taghut' (devils). And amongthem were those whom Allah guided, and among them were those upon whom errorwas (deservedly) decreed. So proceed through the Earth and observe how was theend of the deniers (who followed Taghut). ] (An-Nahl - 36)Every Prophet took solemn pledges from their followers individually and collectively on theinstance of Allah Prophet Mohammad ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم also took collective andindividual pledges from Sahabah.Excessive attention on the comforts of the world and allowing the carnal desires to rule over theirhearts makes people forget about the purpose of their coming into this world which was torecognize their creator, their true Lord and worship Him earnestly.4Return to Contents

It is in Quran - ُون َ اإل ِ نس إِ هَل ِليَعْبُد ِ ْ [ َو َما َخ َل ْقتُ الْ ِج هن َو And I did not create the jinn and mankindexcept to worship Me. In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most MercifulVerse 80.2 - ع َم ٰى ْ َ أَ ْن َجا َءهُ ْاْل Translation – When there came to him the blind man (Ibn Umme Maktumؓ , who came to theProphet ﷺ and interrupted his preaching to the chiefs of Makka).ExplanationAbdullah Ibn Umm Maktum ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ was the cousin of Ummul Momineen Khadija ( رضئ هللا )تعالی عنہا . He was blind by birth. Once he visited the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم at a time when hewas preaching Islam to some chieftains of Makka and was busy in clearing their doubts. SinceAbdullah Ibn Umm Maktum ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ was blind, he did not know that the Prophet ( صلى هللا )عليه و آله وسلم was busy at that time. He started asking the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم one thing afterthe other. Since the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم was busy, he felt a little unease. This incident hasbeen mentioned in the beginning of this verse. It is important to note that Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) and His Apostle ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم teach us by variousways that cover every aspect of our lives. It is in Quran – ي يُو َح ٰى َ ( [ َو َما َين ِط ُق Prophet Mohammad )ﷺ does notٌ ِإنْ ه َُو ِإ هَل َو ْح - ع ِن ا ْل َه َو ٰى say anything with his self desire, except that this is the revelation which is coming tohim (from Allah).] (An-Najm – 3-4).5Return to Contents

It is in Quran - ٌ سنَة ِ [ لهقَدْ كَا َن لَكُ ْم فِي َرسُو ِل ه Prophet Mohammad ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم َ َّللا أُس َْوةٌ َح is an exemplary model (for all of you).] (Al-Ahzab – 21).Some people wrongly relate human weaknesses with the person of a prophet or his close associatesbased on certain incidents in their lives. Sometimes people are unable to comprehend the meaning ofa certain verse. They should know that an incident or a statement used for a Prophet carries differentmeanings than when it is used for a common man. If you do not understand these sensitive issues, you may go astray.Understanding Quran is not an easy task. Only with the mercy of Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) and His ApostleMohammad ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم one can comprehend the meanings of the Quranic verses in theirproper perspective.SURA AD-DHUHA ( )سورة الضحى الرحِ ِيم الرحْ َم ٰـ ِن ه َّللا ه ِ بِس ِْم ه In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most MercifulVerse 93.3 - عكَ َربُّكَ َو َما قَلَ ٰى َ َما َوده Translation – (O' Noble Prophet )ﷺ Your Lord did not leave you, nor is He displeased (as someenemies are claiming).ExplanationIn is in Ahadith that the revelations were stopped for a few days during Prophet's ( صلى هللا عليه و آله )وسلم stay in Makka. In some Ahadith, it is for 12 days, in some it is 15, 25 and even 40 days. It madethe Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم sorrowful and gave an opportunity to the disbelievers who startedclaiming that the Prophet's ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم Lord was displeased and had forsaken him. Sura AdDhuhaa was revealed at that time.6Return to Contents

The break in revelations is known as 'Fatra' ( )الفطرة which is normal with Prophets. The break of 'Ilham' and/or the state of closeness with Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) in the case of Awliya is alsonormal. It is known as 'Qabz' ( )قبض . In the state of Qabz, it looks that Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) has abandonedthe Wali. During this state, Awliya Allah turn to Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) in repentance and continue withAstaghfaar until the state is over and they come back to the state of proximity with Allah which isknown as 'Bast' ( )بسط .SURA ASH-SHARH ( )سورة الشرح الرحِ ِيم الرحْ َم ٰـ ِن ه َّللا ه ِ بِس ِْم ه In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most MercifulVerse 94.1 - َ صد َْرك َ َ أَلَ ْم نَ ْش َرحْ لَك Translation – (O Prophet )ﷺ Have We not expanded your chest for you.ExplanationAllah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) is the teacher of Prophet Mohammad ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم , and the Prophet ( صلى هللا عليه )و آله وسلم is the teacher of humanity. Thus, the expanse of the chest (knowledge) of ProphetMohammad ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم is indeed limitless and it is from the beginning of the time.(i) It is in Hadith - Jabir Ibn Abdullah ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ asked the Prophet ( صلى هللا عليه )و آله وسلم , O' Apostle of Allah ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم may my father and mother besacrificed for you, tell me the first thing Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) created before all things.' TheProphet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم said : O'Jabir ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ , the first thing Allah ( ع هز َ )و َجله َ created was the light of your Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم from His light. (Andeverything else was created from that light). (Part of the Hadith).7Return to Contents

The above Hadith was narrated by Abdur Razzaq (d. 211 AH) in his Musannafaccording to Qastallani in al-Mawahib al-Laduniyya (1:55) and Zarqani in his Sahrhal-Mawahib (1:56 of the Matba'a al-Amira, Edn, Cairo).Abdur Razzaq is one of the authentic and reliable narrators. Bukhari took 120 andMuslim took 400 Ahadith from him.Baihaqi narrated the above Hadith with a different wording in 'Dala'il al-Nubawwa,according to Zurqani in his Sharh al-Mawahib (1:56 of the Matba'a al-Amira, Cairo.)Diyarbakri narrated it in 'Tarikh al-Khamis (1-20).(ii) It is in Quran – ِيرا ً َّللا بِإِذْنِ ِه َوس َِراجًا ُّمن ِ َودَا ِعيًا إِ َلى ه - ِيرا ً سلْنَاكَ شَا ِهدًا َو ُمبَ ِش ًرا َونَذ َ ْ ي إِ هنا أَر ُّ ِ [ يَا أَيُّ َها ال هنب O'Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم Truly We have sent you as a Witness, a Bearer of Gladtidings and a Warner (for the entire cosmos); and one who invites to Allah's (grace)by His consent, and as a lamp spreading light (into the whole cosmos). (Al-Ahzaab45-46)In the above verse Prophet Mohammad ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم is described as 'Lampspreading light' (into the whole cosmos). He is also referred as a 'Witness', a bearer ofglad tidings and the one who warns to humanity. A witness is the one who knowsabout all the physical and spiritual aspects of this Cosmos.(iii) It is in Hadith - Abu Hurairah ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہ narrated, 'they (the Sahabah)asked, O'Allah's Apostle ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم , when was prophet-hood established foryou? He said, while Adam ( )عليه السالم was between the soul and body' (Tirmidhi).SURA AL-ALAQ ( )سورة العلق الرحِ ِيم الرحْ َم ٰـ ِن ه َّللا ه ِ بِس ِْم ه 8Return to Contents

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most MercifulVerse 96.5 - سانَ َما لَ ْم يَ ْعلَ ْم ََ اإل ْن ِ ْ عله َم Translation – (Allah) taught the human being what he did not know.ExplanationThe first five verses of this Sura were the first revelation to Prophet Mohammad ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم when he was in Seclusion at Hira Cave. The happening of first revelations to Prophet Mohammad( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم has been reported in detail in many Ahadith. It is in Hadith - Narrated Ummul Momineen Aisha ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا , 'the onset ofDivine revelations to Allah's Apostle ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم was in the form of gooddreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of seclusion wasbestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he wouldpray continuously for many days till he would go back to see his family. He wouldtake with him some food for his stay and then come back to Ummul MomineenKhadija ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا to take his food like-wise again till suddenly (one day) theTruth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to himand asked him to read. The Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم replied, "I do not know howto read. The Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم added, 'The angel caught me and pressedme so hard that I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again askedme to read and I replied, I do not know how to read. Then he caught me again andpressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me andagain asked me to read but again I replied, I do not know how to read. Then hecaught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said,[ اقْ َرأْ َو َربُّكَ ْاْل َ ْك َر ُم - ق َ ْ سا َن ِمن َ اإلن ٍ َ عل ِ ْ َخلَ َق - اقْ َرأْ بِاس ِْم َربِكَ الهذِي َخلَ َق - Read in the name of your Lord, who has created (all that exists), has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord isthe Most Generous." (Al-Alaq - 1-3).(After this) Allah's Apostle ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم returned (home) with the revelation;his heart beating hard. He went to Ummul Momineen Khadija bint Khuwailid ( رضئ )هللا تعالی عنہا and said, 'Cover me! Cover me!' He was covered, till his state came backto normal and he told her everything that happened and said, 'I fear that somethingmay happen to me.' Ummul Momineen Khadija ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا replied, "Never! ByAllah, Allah will always take care of you. You keep good relations with your Kithand kin, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests generously and assist thedeserving calamity-afflicted ones.' Ummul Momineen Khadija ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا then9Return to Contents

accompanied him to her cousin Waraqa bin Naufal bin Asad bin Abdul Uzza, who, during Pre-Islamic period, had became Christian and used Hebrew letters in hiswriting. He used to write from the Gospel in Hebrew as much as Allah wished himto write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Ummul Momineen Khadija( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہا said to Waraqa, 'Listen to your nephew, O' my cousin!' Waraqaasked, 'O my nephew! What have you seen?' Allah's Apostle ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم described whatever he had seen. Waraqa said, 'This is the same one (angel Gabriel)who keeps the secrets, whom Allah had sent to Moses ( )عليه السالم . I wish I were youngand could live up to the time when your people would turn you out.' Allah's Apostle( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم asked, 'Will they drive me out?' Waraqa replied in the affirmativeand said, 'Anyone who came with something similar to what you have brought wastreated with hostility; and if I should remain alive till the day when you will beturned out, then I would support you strongly.' But after a few days Waraqa diedand the Divine revelation was also paused for a while. In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most MercifulVerse 105.1 - ب الْفِي ِل ْ َ ْف فَعَ َل َربُّكَ بِأ ِ ص َحا َ أَلَ ْم ت ََر َكي Translation – Have you not seen (O Prophet )ﷺ how your Lord dealt with the Army of theElephant?ExplanationAn elephant army came under the command of Abraha, the Abysinian Governor of Yemen, whowanted to destroy the Ka’ba in Makkah in the year of Prophet’s ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم birth. But he andhis army was destroyed by Allah Surah al-Feel is about them.10Return to Contents

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Mercifulَ ِإنها أَ ْع Verse 108.1 - طيْنَاكَ الْك َْوثَ َر Translation – Indeed, We have given you (O' Prophet )ﷺ Al-Kawthar.ExplanationThere are some differences of opinions to the timing and contextual background of the revelation ofSura Al-Kawthar. However, the majority opinion is that this Sura was revealed in Makka some timebefore Prophet's ( ' )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم Ascension' (Mi'raj).Sura al-Kawthar was revealed at a time when Makkan pagans' persecution of Muslims was at itspeak. With no business left, the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم was totally cut off from the community. Both his sons Qasim and Abdullah ( )رضئ هللا تعالی عنہما died early in their childhood during this time. The Pagans thought that the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم had been ruined as he does not have anymale children to carry forward his religion in future.Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) says that as against the foolish understanding of Makkan Pagans, Allah ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) hasrewarded the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم much more virtue in both the worlds. In addition, the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم is rewarded with the fountain of al-Kauther on the dayof Judgment from which his Umma will drink. The water of this fountain will come from the river ofParadise, also named al-Kauther, which has been given to Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم .There are many Ahadith narrated by over 50 Sahabah that mention both the fountain of al-Kautherand the river of al-Kauther in Paradise.11Return to Contents

The people on the day of Resurrection will suffer from thirst. But the Muslim Ummah will gather infront of the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم at this fountain and they will be provided water from it todrink. The water of this fountain will be cool, whiter than milk, sweeter than honey and will smelllike musk. Al-Kawthar will be a very large fountain and the number of water jugs provided on itwill be like the number of stars in the sky. Whoever drinks a glass of this water will never feel thirstyagain.SURA AL-KAFIROON ( )سورة الكافرون الرحِ ِيم الرحْ َم ٰـ ِن ه َّللا ه ِ ِبس ِْم ه In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most MercifulVerse 109.6 - ِين ِ ِي د َ لَكُ ْم دِينُكُ ْم َول Translation – Surely, I will be rewarded for my prayers, and you will be punished for your(Idol) worship.ExplanationIt is reported that the Mushrikeen of Makka often offered the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم certaincompromises in religion. They asked him to respect some of their gods and in return they willrespect Allah Similarly, there can be compromise in various Pagans' customs. These offerswere rejected by the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم .Surah al-Kaafiroon clearly distinguishes between a believer and a non-believer, referred in Quran asKafir; meaning a person who rejects his own creator. The word Kafir covers hypocrites, atheists, deity, idol, stars and object worshipers and those who claim their god to have creature attributes, like physical body, spouse children, etc.12Return to Contents

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most MercifulVerse 110.3 - ستَ ْغفِرْ هُ ۚ ِإنههُ كَانَ ت هَوابًا ْ فَ َس ِبحْ ِب َح ْم ِد َر ِبكَ َوا Translation – Then glorify the praises of your Lord and seek His forgiveness (for yourUmmah). Certainly, it is He Who accepts repentance and grants forgiveness!ExplanationSurah An-Nasr refers to Allah's ( ع هز َو َج هل َ ) help in the victory of Muslims. During 23 years of preachingof Islam, the first 13 years in Makka, the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم faced extreme persecution inthe hands of Makkan Pagans. After his immigration to Madina, the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم hadto deal with the machinations of Jews, disbelieving tribes, hypocrites' plots and Makkan attacks. Many battles were fought by Muslims during this period and gradually with the help of Allah ( ع هز َ )و َج هل thefoldofIslamincrowds. And,َwhen the Prophet ( )صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم did Hajj in 10 AH (March, 632 AD), over 1,20,000 Muslimsaccompanied him.SURA MASAD ( )سورة المسد الرحِ ِيم الرحْ َم ٰـ ِن ه َّللا ه ِ ِبس ِْم ه In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful13Return to Contents
