Public Notice On Cap Prices For Petroleum Products Effective Wednesday .

REF: PPR/2022 - 02/1PUBLIC NOTICE ON CAP PRICES FOR PETROLEUM PRODUCTS EFFECTIVEWEDNESDAY, 2ND FEBRUARY 2022The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) hereby publishesCap Prices for petroleum products, applicable in Tanzania Mainland. These retailand wholesale prices are applicable effective from Wednesday, 2nd February2022. Hereinafter, kindly take note of the following:(a) Retail and wholesale prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene importedthrough Dar es Salaam port have changed compared to prices publishedon 5 th January 2022. For February 2022, the retail prices of petrol andkerosene have decreased by TZS 21/litre (equivalent to 0.83%) and TZS44/litre (equivalent to 1.90%), respectively while the retail price of dieselhas increased by TZS 13/litre (equivalent to 0.57%). Likewise, compared tothe publication of last month, wholesale prices of petrol and kerosene havedecreased by TZS 21.00/litre (equivalent to 0.89%) and TZS 43.80/litre(equivalent to 1.99%), respectively while the wholesale price of diesel hasincreased by TZS 13.20/litre (equivalent to 0.60%).(b) For February 2022, retail and wholesale prices of petrol and diesel inthe Northern regions (Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, and Manyara) havedecreased compared to prices published on 5th January 2022. ForFebruary 2022, retail prices of petrol and diesel have decreased by TZS123/litre (equivalent to 4.89%) and TZS 92/litre (equivalent to 3.90%)respectively. Similarly, compared to the publication of last month,wholesale prices of petrol and diesel have d e c r e a s e d by TZS1 2 2 . 4 1 /litre (equivalent to 5.12%) and TZS 92.53/litre (equivalent to4.13%), respectively. Due to depletion of kerosene at Tanga storageterminal, Petrol Station Operators in the Northern regions are advised tosource kerosene from Dar es Salaam. Therefore, the retail prices ofkerosene for those regions are based on the cost of the product receivedthrough Dar es Salaam port and the transport cost to the respective1 Page

regions.(c)For February 2022, retail and wholesale prices of petroleum products forSouthern regions (Mtwara, Lindi, and Ruvuma) shall continue to be thesame as those that were published on 5th January 2022 because there wasno new consignment of the petroleum products which was received throughMtwara port in January 2022. Due to unavailability of kerosene at Mtwarastorage terminals, Petrol Station Operators in the Southern regions areadvised to source kerosene from Dar es Salaam. Therefore, the retailprices of kerosene for those regions are based on the cost of the productreceived through Dar es Salaam port and the transport cost to therespective regions.(d) Changes in local prices are mainly attributed to changes in the world oilmarket prices, BPS premiums and value of Shillings against the US Dollar.(e) EWURA would like to remind the public that these cap prices can beaccessed through mobile phones by dialing *152*00# and then following theprovided instructions. This service is free of charge and is available in allmobile phone service providers in the country.(f)In line with the prevailing sector legislation (Petroleum Act, 2015, section166), prices of petroleum products are governed by rules of demand andsupply. EWURA shall continue to encourage competition in the sector bymaking available petroleum products pricing information including capprices. This information on prices is intended to enable stakeholders tomake informed decisions on petroleum prices at any particular time.(g)Oil Marketing Companies are free to sell their products at a price that givesthem a competitive advantage provided that, such price does not exceedthe price cap and is not below the floor price for the relevant productas it is computed using the approved formula and EWURA (PetroleumProducts Prices Setting) Rules 2022, which were gazetted through theGovernment Notices No. 2A and 57 published on 3rd January 2022 and28th January 2022 respectively.(h) All petrol stations are required to publish petroleum product prices onclearly visible boards. The price boards should clearly show pricescharged, discounts offered as well as any trade incentives or promotions onoffer. Consumers are encouraged to purchase from stations that sellproducts at the most competitive prices and offer better services. It is anoffense not to have prices published on boards located in clearlyvisible places in front of petrol stations. Failure to adhere to this2 Page

directive will attract punitive measures from EWURA.(i)Retailers must issue receipts printed from an Electronic Fiscal Pump Printer(EFPP) for all sales that they make.
