A NOTE FROM THEPROGRAM DIRECTORWelcome to our 2022 New Play Lab!The Lab is a special event that invites Quinnipiac students from all disciplines to engage in the process of New Play Development. It’s a rigorous and rewarding process filled with transferable skills and lessonsthat are so valuable to undergraduate students and emerging artists. The work you’ll see on stage this weekend is still being developed andwill be presented to you as Works-In-Progress. There’s something exciting about that. The work will be evolving as you see it and your ownreactions in the audience may contribute toward further development. Our student playwrights and directors have been encouraged torevise and reshape their plays throughout the weekend. Rather thandoing the same thing at each performance we’ve pushed them to seekfurther possibilities beyond the most readily available ones—becauseoften the second and third ideas are much more exciting than the first. As such, it’s entirely possible that if you attend multiple performancesthis weekend you’ll see different versions of these scripts. To guide the students through this creative exploration we’ve pairedeach playwright and director with a professional theater artist who willbe at every performance offering critical feedback and mentorship. These professionals have been working with the students since December and have been preparing the students to make the most of thisLaboratory setting. The New Play Lab is meant to be a place where risk taking is encouraged. Where students are pushed beyond the borders of their initialideas and into the realm of further possibility. It may not always lead tothe most polished presentation—but it will surely be exciting.Thank you for joining us and for sharing in the process. With gratitude,Kevin DalyTheater Program Director
