The Affordable UF website was launched with a new design with support from the Affordable UF Libraries Working Group and Center forTeaching Excellence staff and faculty. The website offers an access point for informa on about affordability and open educa onal resources, specific campus exper se and available technology, and highlights of ongoing work. Usage peaked for the site in August 2020, at thebeginning of the new semester.2. In the Fall 2019 semester, the Libraries (Access & Resource Sharing; Marston Science Library; Acquisi ons & Collec ons Services) piloted aproac ve textbook purchasing project for high-enrollment STEM courses to purchase 60 texts. Titles were accessed by students over 1,500mes during the course of the semester. The Libraries and Student Government have not established a formal partnership around thisprogram; however, funding has been secured from an external partner to sustain the program.3. The Libraries (Digital Partnerships & Strategies) and Center for Teaching Excellence established a campus-wide OER Advancement Task Forceto bring together exper se across units focused on access to more equitable and inclusive course materials. In partnership with theUniversity Press of Florida, LibraryPress@UF developed two textbook publica on projects with instructors in the College of Engineering.Members of the Affordable UF Libraries Working Group led three programs specifically focused on free resources; as programmingopportuni es were constrained during the pandemic, Acquisi ons & Collec ons Services led efforts to document access points for openaccess instruc onal and research materials.4. Of 80 total texts adopted across state core general educa on courses in 2019-2020, 56 (or 70%) were available for students to accessthrough the Libraries, either in hard copy or ebook formats. In the 2019-20 academic year, the Course Reserves unit purchased 602 uniqueitems (books, DVDs, and streaming videos) for instruc onal use. The Interlibrary Loan unit purchased a total of 416 tles through the “Bookson Demand” program. Responding to the urgent needs brought on by the pandemic, mul ple departments worked to provide digital accessto print collec on materials and to promote awareness of electronic instruc onal materials as capacity and copyright restric ons allowed.5. An alloca on of 100,000 was provided by the Provost’s Office in Fall 2019 and provided funding through Spring 2020. Over the course ofthe four-year program (2017-2020), 399 awards were made to subsidize open access ar cle publica ons, totaling nearly 553,000. This wasthe final year of commi ed funding and the program is now on hiatus.6. During this me, the UF Libraries, in partnership with the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, completed the digi za on of more than100,000 pages of historic newspapers from Florida and Puerto Rico as part of the state and territory’s par cipa on in the NDNP. Through thisdigi za on effort, extensive coverage of five Florida tles and one Puerto Rican tle were made available to the public via UFDC, as well as inChronicling America, a site created for NDNP that is managed by the Library of Congress. Addi onally, the UF Libraries received a new NEHgrant to con nue par cipa ng in the NDNP. The Libraries, alongside partners in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, will con nue todigi ze, and make available addi onal newspaper pages from the state and territories. Progress on the Mellon grant was slowed by thepandemic and vendor shutdowns, however, 131 reels were sent out. This produced 69,474 pages for ingest into the UF Digital Collec ons.The remaining pages are on schedule to be completed in the 2020-21 cycle.7. The goal was successful in that a grant was submi ed and a plan was put in place. The efforts to complete the project is ongoing and othertles are under considera on for the same process. The DSS department has worked with three other ins tu ons to complete the run ofissues Carteles, a Cuban newspaper of high research value, that are available online. The University of Miami, Florida Interna onalUniversity and Yale have agreed to coordinate scanning efforts to create a single series of this tle, made available in the UF DigitalCollec ons and the Digital Library of the Caribbean. UF and UM scanned their available issues and added them to the collec on. FIUscanned one run of their content and applied for a grant to scan the rest.8. The Acquisi ons & Collec ons Services reviewed current streaming video acquisi on plans and evaluated streaming video offerings fromother vendors. The exis ng plan was found to be fiscally unsustainable, despite the high level of use, due to the model offered by the vendor.Ul mately, the exis ng patron-driven plan was discon nued in favor of subscrip on models that allow the Libraries’ to be er an cipatefuture costs. Ul mately, the change to a subscrip on model resulted in a lower annual budget commitment for these plans whilesimultaneously increasing the total number of streaming tles made available, which also freed funds to be used to fill requests forstreaming videos not available in the subscrip on packages.9. The Electronic Resources Unit gathered usage data for virtually all of the Libraries’ electronic resource subscrip ons and paired that datawith cost reports for easy access by the Libraries’ leadership and liaison librarians. The Electronic Resources Unit established procedures forstandardizing and upda ng this informa on annually moving forward. The new data and process for gathering data was presented to andapproved by the Libraries’ Collec ons Commi w/8257/year/1415/unit/245934/15
