Getting StartedIntroductionThank you for purchasing the ScreenCast TV Adapter for Intel Wireless Display.We created this product to help you wirelessly transmit your favorite contentfrom your laptop to the best screen in your house—your living-room TV.Before the ScreenCast TV Adapter, you may have needed a long cable or simplycrowded around your laptop screen to share movies, pictures, and surf the Web.Now you can take content from any WiDi laptop with a second-generation Intel Core processor and easily display it on your TV with the ScreenCast TV Adapter.From the latest Blu-ray Disc movies to your favorite Netflix and YouTube videos,to just showing off pictures of your recent family vacation, exactly what you seeon your laptop can now be displayed on your TV from as far as 30 feet away.1

ScreenCast TV Adapter for Intel Wireless Display An Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) laptop You need a WiDi laptop to use the ScreenCast TV Adapter. Thelatest generation WiDi laptops support streaming of DVD andBlu-ray content to your TV in 1080p quality. Check with yourPC vendor on which generation of WiDi your PC supports. Power Supply (attached to ScreenCast TV Adapter) Quick Install Guide User Manual on CD A TV with an available HDMI or RCA input port B elkin recommends a 1080p-capable TV and HDMIfor the best picture and sound possible. If you use theScreenCast TV Adapter with an older model TV thatonly has RCA (component) inputs, you will only beable to view standard-definition (480p) content. One HDMI Cable 2

A simple way of thinking about it is as areplacement for a cable to a secondary monitor. nce connected, your laptop operates in all the standardOWindows 7 multiple monitor modes: duplicate (mirror)images, extended (a second screen for more desktop space),or projector (laptop screen off and duplicate screen on). I ntel WiFi hardware and Intel My WiFi Technology (IntelMWT) software allows both an easy connection to theScreenCast TV Adapter and a standard connection toa wireless access point for Internet connectivity. ith Intel Wireless Display, you can watch videos onWyour HDTV while surfing the Web on your laptop.3

Adapter SetupWhere to Place Your ScreenCast TV AdapterPlugging Everything Together Your ScreenCast TV Adapter and TV need to be closeenough together to allow you to connect them with an RCAor HDMI cable (provided). The ScreenCast TV Adapter alsoneeds to have an available power outlet within range. Connect your ScreenCast TV Adapter to your TV withthe HDMI cable (included in the box) or RCA cables(sold separately), and connect the power supply tothe ScreenCast TV Adapter and a nearby outlet. For best results, keep your ScreenCast TV Adapterwithin line-of-sight of wherever you plan to use yourWiDi laptop (sold separately)—this will help ensurethat your TV receives the best possible signal and youget the most out of your ScreenCast TV Adapter.1 The ScreenCast TV Adapter will be most effectivewithin 30 feet of your laptop, but range will depend onmany factors including other sources of interferenceand the building materials used in your home.HDMI2TV4

Adapter SetupSoftware—First-Time Setup1. Turn on your TV and switch it to the A/V input whereyour ScreenCast TV Adapter is connected. Then pushthe power button on the back of the Adapter. Youshould then see a screen that looks like this:5

Adapter Setup2. On your WiDi laptop, launch the Intel Wireless Display software.On some laptop PCs, this may be a switch at the top of thekeyboard. Other PCs may require you to start a program from ashortcut on the desktop or in the system tray. Refer to your PCmanufacturer’s documentation for specific details on your model.6

Adapter Setup3. When you click to connect to the ScreenCast TV Adapter, ascreen will appear on your TV with a 4-digit security code. Asimilar screen appears on your PC requesting that code. Enterthe 4-digit code into the appropriate box on your laptop screen.7

Adapter Setup4. Name the ScreenCast TV Adapter. Naming it will allow youto easily find it in a list of available adapters should youhave more than one within range. Use a name that is easyto remember like “Living Room WiDi”. If you choose not toname it, the device will be set to a factory-default name.8

Adapter Setup5. Next, the software will prompt you to easily configure your displayso that it completely fits on the TV screen. (The initial setup usesa mirror approach so that you can see the same screen on bothdevices—you can change this later.) You can also register yourScreenCast TV Adapter with Belkin to receive updates and support.6. Once you have the display configured the way you wantand you’ve registered your product, click “Complete.”You can now use your TV as a second monitor.9

Using your ScreencastHow to Use ItPlaying Content on Your TV1. Simply press the Intel Wireless Display button on yourWiDi laptop or click on the desktop WiDi icon, andthe rest is automatically handled by your PC. This is the easy part. Once you are connected, you can useyour TV as though it is a second screen for your laptop PC. Anycontent that you can watch on your laptop, including DVDs orBlu-ray Disc, can now be viewed on your TV. Whatever you canwatch on your laptop’s screen, you can now watch on your TV.2. When you start WiDi on your laptop, a screen appearsthat allows you to select from available adapters. TheScreenCast TV Adapter should appear on this list. I f you don’t see the ScreenCast TV Adapter on the list, you mayneed to move your laptop closer to the ScreenCast TV Adapterfor a better signal. You should also confirm that the ScreenCastTV Adapter is connected to power and the power is turned on.10

using your screencastOptions for Using the TV ScreenYou have three basic options for how to use your TV and laptop screens. Extended monitor—this allows you to keep using your laptop screenwhile sending content over to your TV for a larger group to see. Mirroring or “cloning” (displaying the same content on bothscreens)—useful for when you want to use your laptop’skeyboard or mouse while showing content to other people. Using just the TV as a monitor—great for movies or othercontent that you want to enjoy on one large screen.11

using your screencastWhat Else Do I Need to Know?Protected Content Output (HDCP) Version 2.0 of Intel Wireless Display supports HighBandwidth Digital Copyright Protection (HDCP). This supporthappens between the PC and the ScreenCast TV Adapterand between the ScreenCast TV Adapter and the TV. Ifany part of this chain is broken, the content may not playon the TV screen. Protected content playback is enforcedby the software media player running on the PC.Audio Output The ScreenCast TV Adapter outputs the audiosimultaneously to two audio options as follows: HDMI: PCM - stereo or surround (5.1 channel sound) RCA L&R jacks: analog - stereo or L&R only from surround12
