The test questions used on the tests have beenprepared by contractors and cover the wide range oftopics candidates would normally encounter as acontractor in their particular field. If candidates haveworked in construction for some period of time in avariety of different settings, they likely have experiencedmuch of what will be found on their test. On the otherhand, if the candidates’ experience is limited (not only inyears but in the variety of work performed) then it islikely they may want to spend time increasing theirknowledge by studying areas in which they are lessfamiliar. For all candidates, the reality is that peopleforget those things they don’t use, and over time acandidate’s knowledge in some areas may havedecreased.Prov recommends that candidates prepare for their testsby familiarizing themselves with the exam referenceswith emphasis on the subject areas listed in each testdescription. Candidates who are familiar with theirreference materials will spend less time searching foranswers during the test. When preparing for the test, remember that hand-written notes are not allowed in areference book used for testing. Candidates areencouraged to prepare their test materials byhighlighting text or placing permanent tabs on importantpages. It is NOT mandatory that candidates purchase any studymaterials in preparation for their tests; however, all testspermit the use of authorized study materials andcandidates may be at a disadvantage if they do not bringthose materials with them to their testing session.
