Migyanko10:30 a.m.“Meet and Greet the Saints” in the Parish HallA WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR:Dear Parishioners:This week the parish meetings of the Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) forReal Presence Real Future will take place in Waverly. Chillicothe St. Peterand St. Mary had theirs a couple of weeks ago. Attending these kinds ofmeetings is quite an experience. We are invited to open our eyes to seethings about ourselves and about the world around us that may not bedirectly apparent to us. Personally, it can make my head spin. I take it in andthen have to wait a while to allow it to settle.Often at such meetings, strong emotions are expressed. Unfortunately, sometimes these areexpressed in such a way that we say more than we mean or in a way that comes out as anaccusation. We can fall into the “blame game,” suggesting that our current predicament issomeone else’s fault. Complaints and renewed expressions of disappointments about pastoccurrences do not serve to move us forward.Behind these strong feelings and overstatements, there is something very deep that is trulya good thing: a love for our parishes and institutions and a sense of gratitude for what hasbrought us to an understanding of our Faith. We are who we are because of where we havecome from. The challenge is to make a decision now to take up the mantel and to moveforward. God is inviting us through all that has happened to listen to His voice and to allowHim to move us into a new situation.Fears, hopes, joys and sorrows are all part of life. We can be grateful to God that He hasgiven us grace and time and one another to open our hearts to these experiences. However,we must not allow them to take control. Our imagination can create scenarios that lead us toattack or run away or to be frozen in place. All of this has to be reined in by reason and Faith. Our imagination must be harnessed, along with the energy that comes with strong emotions,to enable us to stay together and to discover a new way of putting the Gospel into practice.Pope Francis has indicated that we are not simply in an epoch of change. Rather, we areexperiencing a change of epoch. Something “brand new” is being brought to birth throughthe Spirit of Jesus Christ. We have to stake our lives on this. It is the only way that frees us tobe what God calls us to be. Are you hearing the invitation?Rev. Timothy M. THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIMEOCTOBER 24, 2021JOIN US! Real Prescence, Real Future SessionsThe purpose of Real Presence, Real Future is to make sure our parishes and schools are positioned to help bring the faithto all souls in the best way we can. We are in a place to help envision that future. Our input is essential to the process. Our sessions, specifically for St. Mary Waverly, are THIS WEEK! Please plan to attend, either from the comfort of your homeon Monday or Wednesday, or at the Parish Hall on Wednesday. Both sessions are at 6:30 p.m.TO REGISTER FOR LIVE ONLINE MEETING: -register/and choose our parish.A Note from Mike Haller – Real Presence, Real Future 2021Dear Parishioners of the Parishes of the Ross and Pike County Consortium:Last year, I was invited by Bishop Brennan to serve on the Bishop’s Commission for Planning. This commission was founded by BishopBrennan as a result of his year-long analysis of our diocese, including visiting each parish and school at least once, in an effort to tackle manyof the issues facing the Diocese of Columbus. He noted concerns with the priest shortage, evangelization, education, parish operations, andfinances. Each issue brings with it a great number of difficulties. The initial reaction of the commission and priests throughout the Dioceseof Columbus was one of support and thanksgiving, as Bishop Brennan was taking on issues that hadn’t been addressed in quite some time. The goal of establishing the commission was so Bishop Brennan could hear from the various parishes, schools, ministries, and parishionersthroughout the Diocese of Columbus and consider their views as he plans for the future. He recognizes that our diocese is a very diverse group, and the commission is made up of members from all over the diocese. As the process unfolded, Bishop Brennan created the commission withthe following guidelines:1) Growing disciples of Jesus2) Developing the best strategies and structures to support growing disciples3) Acknowledging that the status quo hinders our ability to go out and grow, as well as maintain our numbers4) There will be a process of EXTENSIVE CONSULTATION to determine what is most effective5) Making sure EVERYONE has the opportunity to be involvedAddressing the magnitude of issues and making the most of opportunities will take time, probably several years. The first step of the processwas to enlist the help of a consultant familiar with dealing with these kinds of things. Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI), the consultantselected, has a great deal of experience dealing with the very same issues in dioceses across the country. They have helped many diocesesbe successful. CLI outlined the more than 2-year process to address the concerns and come up with a diocesan-wide plan. The initiative hascome to be known as Real Presence, Real Future. More about the initiative is available at www.RealPresenceRealFuture.org. The focusis the Real Presence of Christ, developing discipleship, and creating our future. The first step of the process was to survey the parishioners, ministers, and entities throughout the diocese. Hopefully, you participated in the survey either online or on paper. Those results are still beingtabulated for the diocese and on a parish-by-parish basis. Preliminary results were presented to the commission, and are being discussed byBishop Brennan and the priests of our diocese following a meeting at the end of August. The diocesan-wide results are available at www.RealPresenceRealFuture.org.This fall, EVERYONE will have the opportunity to discuss YOUR OWN parish and area results at two gatherings. Our Consortium will havethese sessions in the month of October. Each gathering will present the same information, and facilitators will ask for feedback and discussion. The gatherings have the same format/information, so you are only asked to attend one, but may attend both. The gatherings will give us theopportunity to share our results and review our “Parish Workbook.” This workbook will enable us to see and address areas of concern. Then, recommendations from the parishioners will be sent back to the Diocese for review. The process will continue over the next several months.Models will be developed and reviewed by the parish, then sent back to the Diocese again for modifications. I have outlined the processbelow:1) SURVEY RESULTS, PARISH WORKBOOK REVIEWED AT GATHERINGS2) DIOCESE DEVELOPS DRAFT MODELS3) DRAFT MODEL PRESENTED TO PARISH FOR FEEDBACK4) REVISIONS TO DRAFT MODEL SENT TO DIOCESE5) FEEDBACK ON REVISED MODELS DISCUSSED WITH KEY PARISH LEADERS6) REVISIONS TO REVISED MODELSThe focus of the DRAFT models may include collaboration possibilities, ministerial strategies, parish structure, and leadership models. Thequestion has been asked hundreds of times: “Is this about closing parishes?” Bishop Brennan’s answer is “No, it is about filling them, andgrowing disciples of Christ.”So, what can you/we do?1) Pray for the success of the Real Presence, Real Future process.2) Visit the Real Presence, Real Future website and stay informed.3) Attend one of the gatherings this fall and share your input.4) Pray for vocations, throughout our Diocese and the entire Catholic Church. The Real Presence, Real Future website has a wealth of information. If you have questions about the process, please feel free to email me atmikehaller@hallerfuneralhome.com. Thanks in advance for your participation.Sincerely,Michael HallerIf you haven’t yet: Mark your calendars now! ST. MARY, QUEEN OF THE MISSIONSWAVERLY, OHIO30th Sunday in Ordinary Times, October 24, 2021Real Presence, Real Future reflections:Preach the Good News of Jesus Christ to the world!Deacon Joe Knapke, Ss. Simon & Jude Parish, West Jefferson, OHToday is World Mission Sunday, when we focus on the mission of theChurch, which is to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to the wholeworld. When we think of missionaries, we think of men and women whohave detached themselves from physical things and have dedicated their lives to bringing theGospel to people in Third World countries. But we are all missionaries, witnessing by our ownlives to the Good News we have come to know in the Lord. Let us recommit ourselves to thatmission as we celebrate the Eucharist, our Lord’s Real Presence. To read more about how we are growing together in the life of faith and discipleship in theDiocese of Columbus, visit www.RealPresenceRealFuture.org.PARISH NOTES FROMFATHER HAYESSt. Mary, Queen of the Missions,in WaverlyCommunication, Teamwork and Youthare the priorities I have set as pastor. We have made some real strides inour efforts to lay the groundwork forthe future. The transition across thegenerations for responsibilities inparish life has begun, but we needmore of the younger generations totake up the tasks that build up thecommunity. Our elders have held theparish together for decades throughmany challenges. We must continueto draw out their wisdom and to worktogether to fulfill their hope that thislittle community can continue towitness the Gospel to the people ofPike County for generations to come.October 25- Myrtle WorkmanOctober 30- Cora MoralejaNovember 1- Megan CorcoranFr. Stinnett’s ScribblesOf the 266 popes the Catholic Church has had since 33AD, none has been more devoted to Mary than our own St. John Paul II. From thefirst moments of his pontificate in October 1978, he chose as his papal motto “Totus Tuus,” which means “Totally Yours,” in imitation ofMary’s complete and total “Yes” at the Annunciation. To inaugurate his silver jubilee as pope in October 2002, John Paul II wrote a letterto all the faithful entitled “Rosarium Virginis Mariae on the Most Holy Rosary.” He says in this letter that those who pray the Rosary “[sit]at the school of Mary and [are] led to contemplate the beauty on the face of Christ and to experience the depths of his love. Through theRosary, the faithful receive abundant grace, as though from the very hands of the Mother of the Redeemer.” Mary’s job is always to bringus to Jesus.October is one of the two months of the year dedicated to Mary, a time to ask for Mary’s prayers for us and for the world in a special way.October in particular is the month of Our Lady of the Rosary. I was talking to the third graders at Bishop Flaget at the beginning of Octoberabout the Rosary, encouraging them to pray at home with their families. One of the hardest parts of praying the Rosary is the dryness thatcan set in while repeating the same prayer over and over and over again. Fifty Hail Marys is a lot of the same prayer. I told them that one ofthe ways of looking at the Rosary is to remember that Mary is our spiritual mother. One of the ways we know that our earthly mother lovesus is when she hugs us. Praying the Hail Mary is like sharing a spiritual hug with Mary, so the Rosary is a long series of 50 hugs. In the midstof those hugs, Mary is bringing us to Jesus. The mysteries of the Rosary focus on the life of Jesus. Each hug gives us a new opportunity tocontemplate another important part of Jesus’ life, all of which He offered for us.A helpful tip that one of the priests in seminary gave about staying concentrated on each particular mystery of the Rosary is to, whenpraying privately, add something about the mystery into the Hail Mary. For me, the natural place is to do it right in the middle; that wayit is always something about Jesus. For instance, during the First Joyful Mystery, the Annunciation, I might begin “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus, Whose birth was announced by thearchangel Gabriel. Holy Mary ” This way, each time I say the Hail Mary, each time I get a hug from Mary, I am reminding myself whatmoment in the life of Jesus she is drawing me closer towards. You can come up with your own way of remembering and contemplatingeach mystery, making it more personal and meaningful for you. The simplicity and yet the profundity of the Rosary mean that it is a prayerthat can be shared by all, both young and old, those starting out in their relationship with God and those who are already far along thatpath.Archbishop Fulton Sheen was a big devotee of the Rosary as well. He says that the mysteries of the Rosary encompass not only the entirelife of Jesus, but our entire life, too: “’The Christian life is inseparable from the joys of birth and youth, the struggles of maturity againstthe passions and evil, and, finally, the hope of glory in Heaven.’” The mysteries of the Rosary not only help us contemplate the beauty ofthe face of Jesus, but they help us examine our own life as well. Later in his letter on the Rosary, John Paul II calls it a “compendium of theGospel.” When I was growing up, the deacon at my home parish would often say “The Gospel convicts those who are comfortable, andcomforts those who are convicted,” meaning those of us who are suffering or weak. In the same way, the Rosary invites us to look at thoseways in which we are following the Lord well, and hopefully points out ways we can do better and change our lives to become more likethe life of Jesus we are contemplating.

Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The case addressesthe constitutionality of a 15-week abortion ban passed into law inMississippi, and it has the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade. Oralarguments will be held December 1, and a decision is expected inJune 2022. After the Supreme Court agreed to take up the case, the Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities and Christians from otherorganizations discovered that we had separately been convicted ofthe urgent need for unified prayer and fasting for a positive outcometo this case and for the end to abortion. Thus, the Pray for Dobbs ecumenical prayer campaign emerged.National faith leaders from varying Christian denominations, suchas Archbishop Naumann, are calling people of faith nationwide andacross denominations to unite in prayer and fasting. A simple websiteis in development to serve as the touchpoint for all the denominationalpartners: prayfordobbs.com. In addition to the current content, website visitors will be able to sign up for periodic updates andaccess additional resources. Jesus calls us to protect the lives of children, the aged, the weak, the neglected, the despised, thewidows, the elderly; the least of these in the Gospel ofMatthew 25:40, “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, asyou did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’”From 2017-2019 alone, Pike county lost 40 babies to abortion; RossCounty has lost 155 babies to abortion; Scioto county lost 87 babiesto abortion. That is 282 mothers who were forever wounded and 282men who lost the blessing of becoming fathers. All due to abortion.Ohio still maintains the death penalty, and euthanasia is gainingacceptance.
