Safety GuidelinesLifting HazardAccording to the National Institute for OccupationalSafety and Health, the recommended maximum safelifting weight is 51 pounds, with all lifting conditions perfect—minimal forward reach, steady load close to the body, straightback, load between knees and shoulders, and good grips. Toavoid personal injury, always use these proper lifting techniquesand use two people to move cartons weighing more than 51 lbs.The boxes containing the Swan Corporation kits can weigh inexcess of 80 pounds. Use the appropriate lifting devices tomove the load. Always use two people when lifting heavy orbulky cartons. Always use an OSHA approveddust mask when cutting, drilling, or sanding Swan Corporationproducts.Room TemperatureAllow the Swanstone panels to adjust to roomtemperature for at least six hours beforeinstallation, and consult the 100% silicone sealantmanufacturer’s instructions for storage and surface preparation.The panels should be installed at temperatures not less than65 F. Panels should not be installed in areas where thetemperature may drop below freezing (32 F). Failure to followthis recommendation could adversely affect the silicone sealants,which holds the panels to the wall. If the panels are not correctlyadhered to the walls, they may fall off, causing possible injury tosomeone in or around the shower or bathtub enclosure.Power Tool HazardTo prevent personal injury or possible death,always follow the electrical safetyrecommendations of the power tool’s manufacturer. Installation ProcedureFiller BoardsIf an existing wall covering (i.e. tile) does not extend to a heightequal to the height of the panel, it will be necessary to installa filler board to that height. The filler board must equal thethickness of the existing wall covering (tile). Usually 1/4 inchmasonite, or similar material, is adequate. If desired, the fillerboard can extend from the top edge of the tile to the ceiling.1/2"1/2"Failure to use a filler board to properly install the panels couldresult in water damage or other damage to floors, walls, orother portions of your building or home.1/2"2.Apply a coat of water or oil-based primer/sealer to allthe surfaces of the cement board or greenboard (followthe manufacturer’s instructions). Allow the primer to drythoroughly before applying any silicone sealant.High Gloss Wall KitsAIMPORTANT NOTICEBefore beginning, refer to the General Information section forimportant information on how to prepare the existing bathtubor shower walls for installation.BSwan Corporation high gloss wall kits feature several distinctdesigns, depending on kit style and the size of the bathtub orshower enclosure.The wall kits are divided into different styles: those withseparate corner panels and those with combined corner sidepanels. The different installation procedures are covered inthe following sections. Refer to the Installation section thatmatches the Swan Corporation product being installed.New Construction Wallboard InstallationNote: If the high gloss wall panel kit is to be installed over anexisting wall surface, proceed to the next section.1.Measure and cut out openings for the faucet(s), bathtubspout, and/or shower head. Install 1/2 inch moistureresistant cement board or greenboard over back (1), front(2), and rear (3) wall surfaces of the rough opening.InstallationIMPORTANT NOTICEBefore starting the installation, refer to the Kit Contentssection to verify the contents of the carton are correct. Also,read, understand, and follow any NOTES listed for your modelSwan Corporation wall kit.2DO NOT nail wall panels to sub-walls. This will damage thewall panels, could result in water damage or other damage tofloors, walls, or other portions of your building or home, andwill void the warranty.13Wall panels with a bullnose (curved) edge should be installedwith the bullnose edge toward the front edge of the bathtub orshower floor.For a professional looking installation, align the top edges of theadjacent panels and line up any grout lines. If the bathtub orshower floor has settled or is out of plumb, it may be necessaryto file or sand the bottom edge of the panels to achieve a goodfit across the top. Trial fit all panels before final installation.IMPORTANT NOTICEIf the existing bathtub or shower enclosure has a window, theoptional WTK-1 Window Trim Kit can be used to finish out theinstallation and help protect the window from moisture damage.To prevent possible water (wicking affect) damage to the wall,install the wall board with a 1/2 inch gap above the bathtub orshower floor side lip, the front edge of the bathtub or showerfloor, and the room floor.800-325-7008Gaps between the bathtub or shower floor ledge and thebottom edge of the wall panels must be caulked after thetemporary bracing is removed.7Swan

Moldedin shelves must be installed with the flat surface facing up.Corner panels without tags or molded in features may beinterchangeable.1.8”Select either a left or right corner panel. Trial fit the cornerpanel, and make any necessary adjustments.2.Note: Corner shower wall kits only have one corner panel.Install it with the flat surface of the molded shelf facing up.Clean the back of the panel with denatured alcohol.IMPORTANT NOTICEDo not use oil-based cleaners, such as mineral spirits, toclean the panels. The oil in the cleaner will prevent the panelfrom properly adhering to the wall.IMPORTANT NOTICEModel SW-7036 and SW-7060 Shower Wall Kits. The sidesof the corner panels are different widths. One side is 6 incheswide and the other is 8 inches wide. The orientation of thecorner panel will affect the allowable width of the walldimensions. Refer to the illustration for proper orientation. Swan3.8Apply the silicone in 1-1/4 inch diameter dots every 8 to10 inches over the back surface of the panel. Follow thesilicone manufacturer’s instructions and note all ventilationand installation precautions.800-325-7008

Installation Procedure4.Carefully position the corner panel and firmly press thesurface of the corner panel against the walls. Apply handpressure up and down and side-to-side, making sure allareas are in firm contact with the wall. It is important toapply hand pressure to the entire surface of the panel tobond it to the wall surface.2. Use the measurements to make a cardboard template inorder to check for proper fit around plumbing outlets.
