MODERATOR'S ADDRESSSammy EldredgeICHABOD, THE GLORY HATH DEPARTEDTEXT: I Sam. 4:21-22Introduction: The Scripture is a story of a failure of the Israelites to do God's will. Itstarted with disobedience and unbelief and came to the point where they thought touse God for their own ends. This did not mean that God was no longer there, butthat their respect for His Holiness was gone . "The Glory Hath Departed."I. THE GLORY HATH DEPARTED FROM OUR NATION.What we once had was a constitution, and a conviction about what our contryshould be, and what it sould do to insure that future generations would have thesame freedoms and assurances we have. Men wrote a perfect document, or as closeto perfect as any has ever been except the Bible. It was based on God's principles inits original form and could be relied upon to steer us in the right directionconcerning our government, power, and administration.Men were convicted by its guidance, and our country as a whole was doing prettywell. God was blessing both in time of peace and time of war.We lost our conviction, we lost our sight of God's will in Government andfamily, and we lost the true meaning of the Constitution . (THE GLORYDEPARTED.)II. THE GLORY HATH DEPARTED FROM THE FAMILYGod's plan was that a man leave his father and mother and get married andbecome a family and raise them to glorify the Lord and bring many to glory. They were to manage their families according to the plan that God set up intheWord, ("The man as head of his house, the wife as a submissive partner as unto theLord, and the children were to be obedient, honoring their parents, until such a timeas they become able to leave and start the process allover again. ")This process would keep the family on the mountain top in man's eyes as weB asin God ' s eyes; but the man" :uiled to be the kind of leader he should be. The wife letvain pride cause her to want a position better in her eyes than what God gave her,and the children when not raised according to Gods plan began to rebel and changethe whole scheme. (THE GLORY HATH DEPARTED FROM THE FAMILY)III. THE GLORY HATH DEPARTED FROM THE PULPIT.God ordained that we rightly divide the truth, dedicate ourselves to the ministry.and direct our churches in the way of the Lord;, but it hasn ' t worked outthat wa. Wehave instead overlooked the sinful, compromised the word, and minimized thepower of the Spirit. When I say we, I don't mean there is no one still working for thetruth, but that which is branded Christianity has become that which brings glory toitself, instead of to God, and "THE GLORY HATH DEPARTED, FROM THEMESSAGE."IV. THE GLORY HATH DEPARTED FROM THE CHURCHThere is no stand. We don't stand on the truths anymore . There is no stand ondiscipline, no stand on true tithing, no stand on baptism, and the sovereignty of thelocal church . Again let me say, not every church has departed from these things, butjust look at the splits and future threats shown in the attitude of some of our churchleaders.there isn't any strength any more. I mean when the truth is preached, do you hearpeople say . AMEN", as they used to? It is because they do not really stand instrength behind the Word as they did in the past.14

That old time religion and the old paths of teaching and standing are what weneed to come back to.Conclusion: Let us go back to our church and pUlpits, and raise up a banner of gloryto God, that will start in our heart and spread through our family, church, and evenour nation, to bring back the Glory of God to our society, that our future childrenmight not be called ICHABOD.MISSIONARY BAYfIST ASSOCIATION OF TEXASMINUTES OF THE MEETINGNOVEMBER 11, 1986The meeting was opened by Bro.
